Zwolschen goal holds up as WolfPack secure key region win over DuPage

First half goal enough, Penfold earns third clean sheet

MADISON, WISC. - A single goal midway through the first half was enough for Madison College to secure a key Region 4 women's soccer win over the College of DuPage by a 1-0 final on Wednesday at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Freshman Roos Zwolschen scored the game's lone goal, while fellow goalkeeper Arabella Penfold secured her third shutout win of the season. The win narrows the all-time series to 11-9-2 in favor of the Chaparrals.

Madison College controlled the ball and the action for most of the first half, and midway through, the home team struck with a 26' goal. The WolfPack worked the ball around the offensive half of the field when freshman forward Maddie Ludwig delivered a pass from the left of the half circle and it found Zwolschen wide open in the penalty area. The midfielder/forward from the Netherlands played it off the bounce and booted a scoring strike past the goalkeeper towards the left post for her seventh goal of the season.

The second half of the match was filled with stoppages and cards as the team's combined for ten cards, including an 82' red card on the College of DuPage (8-5-1). Madison College finished with a 16-3 lead in total shots and a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. The trio of Zoey Lovejoy, Amalia Molgard, and Ludwig all attempted three shots, with Lovejoy and Molgard leading the team with three shots on goal.

Penfold, a freshman from Sutherlandshire, Australia, was credited with two saves in the shutout. The WolfPack limited the Chaps to a single shot in the second half.
