MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's soccer team put together another all-around effort Saturday, resulting in a lopsided 6-0 win over Region 4 foe and in-state rival Bryant & Stratton College at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Sophomore
Josh Kiltz tallied two goals, giving him five goals scored over the last two matches, while the defense limited the Bobcats to two total shots over 90 minutes of shutout soccer. It's the WolfPack's eighth shutout performance this season and fifth in the last six matches. The win gives the Pack a 4-0-2 lead in the all-time series.
It took Madison College less than four minutes to take a 2-0 lead against the Bobcats as freshman
Bryan Hernandez and sophomore
Gui Amaral each scored early goals. Off a 3' throw-in, second year midfielder/forward
Gio Diaz controlled the ball and worked towards the end line, where he lofted a pass past the far post. That's where Hernandez stepped in and headed the ball hard into the ground, resulting in a goal as it bounced up and over the goalkeeper. In the 4', freshman
Owen Counsell sent a pass from the right side of the pitch into the heart of the penalty area and fellow first year
Dylan Sutton attempted to head it in. The header actually worked better as a pass to Amaral, who bounced it in with his left foot. The goals are the fourth for Hernandez and third for Amaral this season.
The lead grew to 4-0 before halftime with goals in the 10' and 32'. Hernandez came up with a steal near midfield and was able to send a long pass ahead for Kiltz to race down. The midfielder/forward from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, was able to tap the ball to his right and past the oncoming goalkeeper before sending one final kick into the net. Playing aggressive defense later in the half, Sutton came up with a steal in the Bryant & Stratton College (4-9-1) zone and found Diaz up the right side. Diaz, a native of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, then dropped a perfect pass back to freshman
Kian Downey, whose right-footed scoring strike easily found the goal for his third goal this season.
The differential remained 4-0 until late in the match when Kiltz struck again in the 80' to make it a two-goal night. Amaral led Kiltz perfectly with a pass from the left side of the penalty area as Kiltz ran into the goalie box and scored between one defender and an out of place 'keeper after he tried to punch out the initial pass. Kiltz now boasts a team-best eight goals on the season.
The final tally of the night came in the waning moments as Madison College was awarded a penalty kick with less than 20 seconds remaining, and freshman
Isaac Diaz converted for his first collegiate goal.
Madison College finished with a 23-2 differential in total shots and a 15-0 advantage in shots on goal. Kiltz led the way with seven shots and putting five on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Randall Thomas secured his sixth clean sheet of the year.
