Road victory over Harper marks 15th win for WolfPack

Madison College pulls away in second quarter to complete sweep of Hawks

PALATINE, ILL. - The Madison College women's basketball team completed a season sweep of Harper College on Tuesday with a 73-54 Region 4 road win, which gives the WolfPack 15 wins in a season for the first time since 2019-20. Three players scored in double-figures, led by the eighth game this season with 20 or more points for freshman Serinity Metcalfe. The WolfPack, who are still receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, also defeated the Hawks 82-46 on November 22 and lead the all-time series by a 23-3 count.

Madison College jumped out to an 8-2 lead; however, Harper College (3-15) battled back to tie the game at 8-8. The score was still even at 12-12 before the Pack closed the first quarter with a 6-1 surge. The momentum carried into the second quarter, where the visitors built their first double-digit lead at 26-16. A 19-9 differential in scoring for the quarter resulted in a 37-22 advantage at halftime.

Four minutes into the third quarter, freshman Chloe Bynum sank a three pointer to push the differential above 20 points at 48-27. The WolfPack took a 58-37 lead into the final ten minutes, and eventually held a 62-39 differential before the Hawks worked to close the gap to 12 and force a timeout. First year forward Maddi DeSmet hit a driving layup out of the TO with 2:30 to play and ignited a 9-2 closing stretch to seal the win.

Metcalfe went for 21 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. The former Shorewood HS athlete was 8 for 18 overall with one 3-pointer and made all four of her free throw attempts. She is currently averaging a team-best 19.4 points per game and ranks eighth Region 4 in scoring.

DeSmet, a native of Belleville, Wisconsin, finished with 16 points on 8 of 12 shooting en route to her fourth double-digit scoring effort this season. She also matched sophomore Maia Ellis for the team lead in rebounding with seven boards.

Sophomore Dani Latz registered 12 points as she was successful on 5 of 11 shots and made both of her free throws. She also added two rebounds, two blocked shots, one assist, and one steal.

The WolfPack shot 40% (30-74) to mark the ninth time this season they've reached that benchmark. They were also 21% (4-19) from beyond the arc and 69% (9-13) at the free throw line.
