#13 WolfPack turns up the heat late to defeat Harper

Madison College dominates final 15 minutes to secure road win

PALATINE, ILL. - On a night when points were hard to come by, the Madison College men's basketball team flipped the script over the final 15 minutes of Tuesday's night Region 4 game at Harper College and claimed a 91-62 win. Freshman Cam Williams provided a scoring spark for the #13-ranked WolfPack, who dominated the second half by a 57-31 margin. The Pack has won 16 consecutive games over the Hawks and leads the head-to-head series by a 27-10 margin.

Harper College (2-18) held the early control with a 10-2 lead over the game's first seven minutes as Madison College struggled to put the ball in the basket. The WolfPack turned up the pressure with some full court defense and strung together a 12-3 run that saw Braylen Blue come up with a steal and layup to give the visitors a one-point lead. The remainder of the first half remained a back-and-forth affair until Madison held a 34-31 advantage at halftime.

The Hawks were within two at 36-34 when the baskets started to fall for the WolfPack, starting with a Carson McCormick three-pointer off an inbounds play with just over 17 minutes remaining. From that point on, Madison slowly pulled away as they opened a 55-43 edge midway through the half, eventually scoring 79-59 with under three minutes to go.

Williams, a first year guard from Verona, Wisconsin, came off the bench to score 18 points on 6 of 14 shooting with one 3-pointer and a perfect 5 for 5 effort at the free throw line. He also added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals to go along with his sixth double-digit scoring game of the season.

George Whaley IV was the only starter to reach double-figures with 16 points as he made 7 of 14 shots and two free throws. The second year point guard also dished out a season-best eight assists, matched teammates Blue and Luke Rayner for the lead in rebounds with five, and collected three steals.

Freshman Mesiyah Ashley also added some life to the offense as he came off the bench to drop in a career-high ten points for the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native.

As a team, the WolfPack shot 38 of 84 (45%) on the night, were 6 for 24 (25%) from deep, and made 9 of 13 (69%) free throws.
