MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team went head-to-head with a tough Triton College squad Wednesday night at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, and after falling behind 1-0 early, rallied for a 2-1 victory in Region 4 play. Sophomores
Reese Brekke and
Suzy Hinds Cruz each netted a goal in the second half to send the WolfPack to their sixth win in eight matches this season. The decision also gives the Pack an 11-2-2 record all-time against the Trojans.
Triton College (2-7) struck first with a 21' goal as the WolfPack misplayed a pass back to goalkeeper
Kaelyn Welch, which allowed the Trojans to race in for an open net score.
It remained 1-0 through the first half; however, Madison College took control of the match in the second half, and did so immediately. Brekke, who had scored in four of the previous six matches and was coming off her first two-goal match of her career, came up with an unassisted scoring strike in the 46' for the equalizer. The goal tied the Stoughton, Wisconsin, native, for the team lead with six goals on the season.
The game-winning goal was delivered in the 65' by Hinds Cruz for her sixth goal of the year. The former Madison West HS athlete sent a kick towards the goal, and after it rattled the goalkeeper, the crossbar, and the ground, it was deemed a successful goal for a 2-1 lead.
Madison College owned a 9-3 lead in total shots, including a 5-0 differential in the second half, as well as a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. Hinds Cruz was tops with three shots, followed by two each from
Chloe Voung and Brekke. The WolfPack also held an 8-2 differential in corner kicks.
Welch did not record any saves in the winning effort.
