HURLEY, WISC. & IRONWOOD, MICH. - Madison College women's volleyball went up north to start the 2025 season at the Gogebic Community College Open, and they returned with a perfect 5-0 record and a 15-set win streak. A quartet of first year players led the offensive charge, with new outside hitter
Ella Vosberg averaging ten kills per match throughout the two-day tournament.
Match #1 (Friday): Madison College 3, Minnesota North College-Vermilion 0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-7)
Madison College came out swinging in the season's first set and never looked back. The WolfPack amassed 12 kills and a .292 attack percentage en route to a 14-point win. After trailing 2-0, they rattled off eight straight points, a feat they matched later in the set to push a 12-7 lead to 20-7.
The Pack then earned a match-high 13 kills with a .310 percentage in the second set. A 9-0 start to the third and final set put Madison on their way to a season-opening sweep. The set ended with 11 kills and no attack errors for an impressive .579 efficiency. They finished the match with 36 kills with 34 assists, hitting at a .375 clip, and also added 14 aces, 3.0 blocks, and 51 digs.
The freshman duo of
Ella Vosberg and
Makayla Dallas tied for team-high honors with nine kills. Dallas, a Valders, Wisconsin, native, registered a .467 efficiency, while Vosberg wasn't far behind at .368. Vosberg, a native of Cuba City, Wisconsin, also added three aces and five digs in her collegiate debut.
Sam Schultz, listed as a defensive specialist and libero, stepped into a hitting role and posted seven kills, to go along with seven digs.
Sophomore setter
Tricia Klum was tops with 16 assists, followed by freshman
Allie Andrews with 11. Four players amassed two or more aces in the match, led by four aces from second year middle blocker and right side hitter
Kate Howe, who also added four kills.
Hazel Allen, a second year transfer, had three aces.
The defensive effort was paced by freshman libero
Avery Agnew, who tracked down 13 digs.
Madison College is 1-1 all-time against the Ironhawks.
Match #2 (Friday): Madison College 3, Minnesota North College-Itasca 0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-5)
The confidence built up from the first match spilled over in the second with a resounding victory that saw the WolfPack register 33 kills and a .365 hitting percentage, while also serving up a season-best 19 aces. Madison College also tallied 5.0 blocks, 33 assists, and 39 digs.
The Pack led set one 7-1 early, and pulled away with a seven-point run to take an 18-4 lead as they hit .286 with nine kills. The second set saw 13 kills and a 6-0 surge midway through, before back-to-back runs of six points to start the third set put the WolfPack ahead 12-1. They slammed the door shut with ten consecutive points to make it 22-4, eventually using 11 kills and an insane .846 attack percentage to close it out.
Ella Vosberg was again tops with ten kills for her first-career double-digit kills match, using a .625 efficiency to get there.
Makayla Dallas was second with eight kills.
Tricia Klum and
Allie Andrews steered the offense with 17 and 14 assists, respectively. Klum added two aces and eight digs. Andrews finished with three kills, three aces, and two digs.
At the service line, eight players had at least one ace, with five posting two more more.
Avery Agnew, a native of Milton, Wisconsin, and Dallas each tied for the team lead with a four aces. Agnew also had a team-high 11 digs.
Kate Howe came through with four kills and her first multi-block match with two.
This was the first meeting between the two programs.
Match #3 (Friday): Madison College 3, Gogebic Community College 0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-15)
The first day of competition for Madison College ended with a three-set sweep of the host Samsons, pushing the all-time lead to 3-0. And they did it with a season-best 42 kills and a .264 attack percentage. The Pack took a 10-4 lead in the opening set after four straight points, and pulled away late with a 6-0 run to make it 21-12. An early 10-3 differential in the second set allowed the WolfPack to play with a comfortable lead the rest of the way, and in the third set, Madison broke an 8-8 tie with a 9-2 push to earn their ninth straight set victory.
A career-best 13 kills by
Ella Vosberg was followed by eight kills each from
Makayla Dallas and
Caylee Coggins, a Columbia, Missouri, native, who finished with a team-leading .467 efficiency. The 6'0" middle blocker also came through with three of the team's five blocks.
First-year setter and right side hitter
Allie Andrews, a native of Darlington, Wisconsin, racked up a career-best 27 assists, while
Tricia Klum added 14 assists. Andrews also five aces, five kills, and five digs.
The WolfPack produced 16 aces, giving them a total of 49 through the season's first three matches.
Kate Howe, a Manitowoc, Wisconsin, product, established a new career-high with six.
Along the back line,
Avery Agnew set a career-best with 19 digs, and sophomore
Cora Webster registered her 13th career match with double-digit digs as she earned ten.
Match #4 (Saturday): Madison College 3, Central Lakes College 0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-12)
The competition grew tougher on Day 2; however, the WolfPack were ready as they continued to stack up three set sweeps. A 6-0 run early in the first set against the Raiders grew into a 12-1 surge and a set win, while a fast 9-2 start and a 7-0 closing stretch added up to a set two win. Leading 12-6 in the third, Madison College won 13 of the final 19 points for the sweep.
The Pack played very consistent volleyball with single set kills totals of 13, 12, and 12, to go along with set attack percentages ranging from .333 to .393. They also finished with seven aces, four blocks, and 53 digs.
Ella Vosberg smashed ten kills for her third consecutive double-digit kills effort.
Sam Schultz was second with seven to match her career-best. The Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, native did set a career-best defensively, as well, coming through with a team-high 14 digs.
Tricia Klum came through with a season-high 20 assists, followed by ten from
Allie Andrews. Klum, a native of Chaseburg, Wisconsin, was also tops with three aces.
Avery Agnew added ten digs as Madison College posted a season-best 53 digs for the second straight match.
The WolfPack are 7-2 all-time against Central Lakes College.
Match #5 (Saturday): Madison College 3, Dakota County Technical College 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-13)
The tournament finale for the WolfPack was the most competitive of the weekend's action; however, another three-set sweep gave Madison College a 15-set win streak and a 2-1 record all-time against the Blue Knights. The Pack finished with 31 kills and a .267 attack percentage, compared to 23 kills and a .000 efficiency for DCTC.
After holding off any chances for a late Blue Knights rally in the opening set, Madison took a 7-2 lead early in set two before Dakota County assumed the lead at 15-14. From that point on, the Pack won 11 of the next 15 points to take a two-sets-to-none lead. In the third, they broke free from a slim 9-8 advantage with eight consecutive points before DCTC took a timeout.
Seven different players registered a kill, led by
Ella Vosberg with eight and
Caylee Coggins with seven. Coggins used just eight attack attempts with no errors for an .875 attack percentage. Klum directed the action with 16 assists.
The WolfPack serving game was on point, yet again, with 13 aces for the team's fourth double-digit aces performance in five matches.
Avery Agnew recorded four, to go along with a team-leading ten digs.
