WolfPack's Whetstone earns national recognition with two prestigious awards

List of accolades continues to grow for Madison College's third year head coach

Madison College Athletics proudly celebrates Head Women's Basketball Coach Angel Whetstone, who continues to make remarkable strides both in collegiate athletics and the community. This summer, Whetstone was selected for two national honors that recognize her leadership, service, and commitment to empowering others: the Women of Color Scholarship presented by the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) and a spot on the first-ever Chi Omega 30 Under 30 list. The honors come just months after Whetstone was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Thirty Under 30 in March 2025.

Women of Color Scholarship: Advancing Leadership in Athletics

The Women of Color Scholarship is awarded to a select number of professionals from across the country who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment to diversity, and a passion for advancing equity in the intercollegiate athletics space. The scholarship is designed to provide professional development opportunities for minority women in the industry and is sponsored by MOAA, an organization dedicated to promoting equitable employment opportunities for minorities in athletics administration.

Whetstone will attend the Women Leaders in College Sports National Convention, the premier leadership event for women working in collegiate athletics. Hosted by Women Leaders in College Sports, the organization's mission is to develop, connect, and advance women leaders working in college sports and beyond. The convention brings together over 1,000 women leaders annually, offering an empowering environment for mentorship, networking, and professional growth.

"I'm incredibly honored to be selected for this scholarship," said Whetstone. "As a woman of color in athletics, this opportunity allows me to continue developing as a leader while learning from other trailblazing women in athletics. I'm excited to represent our athletics program. I am also forever grateful for my undergraduate athletic director, Pennie Parker, who introduced me to Women Leaders in College Sports during my time at Rollins College and has had a major influence on my professional career."

Whetstone's selection reflects her dedication to both her student-athletes and the broader athletic community. Her leadership and impact continue to grow, both on and off the court.

Chi Omega 30 Under 30: Celebrating Community Impact

In addition to her scholarship honor, Whetstone was named to Chi Omega Fraternity's 30 Under 30, a national recognition awarded to distinguished alumnae under the age of 30 who exemplify Chi Omega's values of friendship, personal integrity, academic excellence, and community service.

Chi Omega, founded in 1895, is the largest women's fraternal organization in the world, with a proud history of cultivating leadership and fostering lifelong sisterhood. The 30 Under 30 program honors women making significant professional and civic contributions while upholding the spirit and ideals of Chi Omega.

As an honoree, Whetstone joins an elite group of women recognized for their positive influence in their communities and professional fields. Her dedication to mentorship, leadership in athletics, and service to others made her a standout nominee.

These dual recognitions highlight Angel Whetstone's continued growth as a changemaker in collegiate athletics and beyond. Her passion for developing student-athletes, building community, and advocating for diversity in sports positions her as an inspiring leader whose impact extends well beyond the court.
