Madison College women's volleyball, softball, baseball, & women's soccer earn NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year recognition

The Madison College Athletics Department enjoyed another highly successful year academically in 2024-25. The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced that 41 Madison College student-athletes were named NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award winners. Even more Madison College Esports student-athletes will likely receive NJCAAE Academic Awards after posting GPA's of 3.50 or better during their competitive semesters, which will be announced in the near future.

By earning a 3.60 or better grade point average over two semesters, 41 student-athletes found their names on the NJCAA's Academic Student-Athlete Award list. Seven Madison College varsity sports teams are represented on the list, led by the WolfPack baseball and softball teams with 11 award winners each. They were followed by women's soccer with seven, women's volleyball with five, men's soccer with four, women's basketball with two, and men's basketball with one. Madison College Athletics saw seven student-athletes pull off a perfect 4.00 GPA for the year. Another 14 student-athletes received second team accolades and 20 more earned third team distinctions.

The NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year awards are to teams that produce a cumulative 3.00 GPA or better, and in 2024-25, the WolfPack saw four teams accomplish the combined academic effort. The women's volleyball team narrowly yielded the top GPA of any Madison College team with a 3.47, finishing ahead of softball with a 3.46. Baseball (3.20) and women's soccer (3.15) were also recognized.

Madison College also featured 106 Region 4 Academic All-Region Award winners over the course of the last two semesters. Those student-athletes were able to achieve a 3.00 or better grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits passed in a semester. The total number is an increase of 30 from 2023-24.

As the second year student-athletes with the highest individual cumulative grade point averages, Mirella Zielke (women's soccer) and James Duncan (baseball) were named the Madison College Top Female and Male Scholar Athletes, respectively. They were each honored at the The Wolfie Awards in April.

College Sports Communicators (CSC) named 13 WolfPack sophomore student-athletes as Academic All-District in 2024-25 based earning a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or higher and meeting specific participation numbers specific to their sport. Marcelino Edison Alonso of Madison College baseball was the lone recipient of a CSC Academic All-America award, receiving first team accolades for his work in the classroom and on the field.
