MILWAUKEE, WISC. - Tuesday night's 72-62 Region 4 road win over in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College was significant for the Madison College women's basketball team. The WolfPack, who had four players score in double-figures, ended a five-game losing streak, reached ten wins in a season for the first time since 2019-20, and recorded the 900th all-time win in program history. The victory also snaps a four-game skid against the Stormers, while increasing the Pack's all-time lead by a 76-18 margin.
Milwaukee Area Technical College (9-19) held the early advantage with eight of the game's first ten points; however, an 8-2 run for the WolfPack evened the score at 10-10. A pair of late buckets from
Dani Latz and
Jaida Gaskins closed the first ten minutes in a 17-17 tie and with momentum on the side of Madison College. The run carried into the second quarter as the visitors rattled off another 12 consecutive points for a 16-0 surge that was capped by back-to-back three-pointers from
Hannah Solie and
Maia Ellis to make it 29-17. Defensively, the Pack also held MATC without a basket for six minutes during that stretch. The big second quarter continued as an 8-0 burst pushed the advantage to 16 with 3:33 to go, and following consecutive triples by the Stormers, Madison College closed the half with another six straight points for a 43-27 lead at the break.
After halftime, Milwaukee Tech cut the differential in half by scoring the first eight points of the third quarter; however, the WolfPack maintained a double-digit lead for a majority of the rest of the third quarter until a three-point play in the final seconds for the Stormers made it 59-51. That play triggered an 11-0 surge from one quarter to the next as MATC completely erased the Madison College lead to tie the game at 59-59 with 7:15 remaining. From that point on, the WolfPack outscored the home team by a 13-3 margin. Ellis drained a key three-pointer with 2:46 to play for a six-point lead and Solie finished the rest from their with the final four points of the game.
Solie matched a career-best with 19 points as she converted 7 of 13 shots, including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc. The native of Chetek, Wisconsin, was a perfect 2 for 2 at the stripe en route to her tenth game scoring in double-digits. Solie added four rebounds and three steals.
Ellis and Gaskins each went for 15 points in the win, setting a new career-best for Ellis. The former Verona Area HS athlete was a perfect 3 for 3 from beyond the arc as part of a 5 for 10 game overall with a pair of free throws and seven rebounds. Ellis made a big impact on the defensive end, coming up with five steals and becoming just the fifth player in program history with six or more blocked shots in a single game as she rejected six. Gaskins was 7 for 14 overall with a free throw, and also added four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Keelyn Zwirschitz finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. Latz led the team with 13 rebounds, to go along with nine points, two assists, a steal, and a block.
Madison College shot 41% (29-70) from the field, 41% (7-17) from three-point range, and 43% (7-16) at the free throw line.

Madison College (10-16) will close out the regular season on Thursday, February 20 with a Region 4 contest at the College of DuPage (15-12). The Chaparrals defeated the WolfPack by a 70-56 final on Saturday in Madison; however, the Pack still owns a 28-19 edge in the all-time series.
