Second half rally extends Madison College win streak to six

Metcalfe goes for career-high 30 as WolfPack dominate fourth quarter

WHITEWATER, WISC. - Behind the first career 30-point game of freshman Serinity Metcalfe, the Madison College women's basketball team recorded their sixth consecutive win with a come-from-behind 69-55 decision against the UW-Whitewater JV on Saturday. The WolfPack trailed by as much as nine in the game, but rallied late in the third quarter to take the lead before putting their foot on the gas in the fourth quarter to pull away. The victory is also the first all-time against the Warhawks, who still lead the head-to-head series 4-1.

The team's traded leads and ties throughout a very competitive first quarter, which opened with a 5-0 Madison College run and closed with an 8-0 UWW surge to lead 23-18 after ten minutes. The WolfPack closed to within one point three times during the second quarter, the last of which was after a pair of Chloey Bynum free throws made it 27-26 with 5:15 to play. The Warhawks responded with six straight points before Metcalfe hit two layups in the final minute for a 33-30 differential at halftime.

Both team's started slow in the third quarter until Whitewater strung together seven straight points for a 40-31 lead. Metcalfe and the Pack answered as the guard sank a jumper and a three-pointer to ignite a 17-4 run, highlighted by ten points from the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native. A layup at the buzzer by the Warhawks left Madison with a 48-46 lead entering the fourth quarter. An early steal by Maia Ellis led to a quick three-pointer from Keelyn Zwirschitz and the WolfPack was off to the races in the final ten minutes, outscoring the hosts 21-9. The WolfPack scored the first dozen points of the quarter, including five each from Zwirschitz and Chloey Bynum, to lead by a game-high 18 points and cruise to victory.

Metcalfe became the seventh player to make six or more three-pointers in a game as she made 6 of 11 shots from long range as part of a bigger 12 for 22 performance en route to the career-high 30 points. She leads the team with an 18.2 points per game average, and has average 22.0 points over the last four outings. Metcalfe also paced the Pack with six steals adn four assists, while grabbing three rebounds.

Bynum, a first year guard from Green Bay, Wisconsin, added ten points for her third double-digit scoring game this season. She finished 5 for 6 at the free throw line.

Ellis led the way with eight rebounds, to go along with three points, four steals, three assists, and two blocks.

Madison College finished the game shooting 38% (24-63) from the field, 39% (9-23) from beyond the arc, and 80% (12-15) at the stripe.
