MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball team closed out the 2025 portion of their schedule Friday with an 86-75 win over the Loras College JV inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium.
Serinity Metcalfe - one of three freshmen to record a career-high in points - poured in 30 points for the second time in three games to help the WolfPack reach ten wins before the end of the December for the first time since the 2018-19 season. The Duhawks, a NCAA Division III program, still leads the all-time series by a 5-3 margin.
Madison College built a double-digit lead in the first quarter thanks to a 16-4 run that was capped by a
Jamera Green layup off an
Amaya Travis steal to make it 20-8. The advantage stretched to 15 early in the second quarter as Metcalfe drilled a three-pointer for a 29-14 advantage. Eight straight points by Loras trimmed it to a seven-point differential, where it still remained when a
Dani Latz jump shot began a 12-5 closing stretch to take a 45-31 lead into halftime.
The WolfPack added to their lead early in the third quarter with six straight points and eventually held a 22-point edge at 58-36. However, the Duhawks kept fighting and put together a 15-2 surge to cut the deficit to nine at 60-51 before Green made a late layup to regain a double-digit lead heading to the fourth. Madison College held off any further comeback attempts by Loras to maintain a ten point or more advantage through nearly all of the fourth quarter. The Duhawks did make a three-pointer to pull within 81-72 in the final two minutes, but the Pack put in a quick four points before earning the 11-point win.
Metcalfe, a former Shorewood HS athlete, posted 30 points, four rebounds, one assist, and five steals. The 5'7" guard was 13 for 26 overall with two 3-pointers and a pair of free throws as she becomes just the fifth player in the last decade to register 13 made field goals in a single game. Metcalfe, who scored 20 of her points in the first half, now boasts five games with 20 or more points and is averaging a team-best 18.4 points per game.
Fellow first year
Maddi DeSmet produced her second career double-double, highlighted by career-bests with 19 points and 12 rebounds. The six-foot forward from Belleville, Wisconsin, finished 5 for 7 from the field and was 9 for 10 at the charity stripe. She scored 14 of her points in the second half.
Jamera Green, a freshman guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, made 6 of 15 field goal tries with a pair of three-pointers and one free throw to reach a career-best 15 points. She has made multiple shots from beyond the arc in four of the last five games.
Maia Ellis, a second year forward, led the team with career-high 14 rebounds and season-best eight assists, to go along with five points.
Madison College finished 34 of 75 (45%) from the field, 4 of 17 (23%) from three-point range, and 14 of 23 (61%) from the free throw line. The WolfPack held a 54-38 advantage in points in the paint in a game they nearly led from start to finish.
