CRYSTAL LAKE, ILL. - Following their first season-opening win in nine years, the Madison College women's basketball team was uninterested in slowing down to celebrate as they blasted through Region 4 foe McHenry County College by a 95-49 final on Tuesday night. All ten players that saw action in the game registered a basket, with five players scoring in double-figures for a second straight outing as the WolfPack boasts an average margin of victory of 44.5 points. The road win also snaps a seven-game losing skid against the Scots, who lead the all-time series by a 7-3 count.
The WolfPack jumped out to a huge early lead with a 23-5 first quarter. The lead continued to grow throughout the second quarter, which featured a 16-0 run, as Madison owned a decisive 46-16 advantage at halftime. McHenry County College (0-2) was able to generate more offensive throughout the second half; however, the Pack never slowed down as they averaged 23.75 points per period en route to their highest point total since a 96-point effort on January 4, 2025, against Harry S. Truman College.
The visitors shot 47% (32-68) from the field, connected on 7 of 25 (28%) attempts from deep, and took full advantage of repeated trips to the free throw line with a 24 for 36 (66%) effort. In addition, they secured a 33-22 edge in rebounding, with 17 offensive rebounds that turned into a 17-6 differential in second chance scoring. Madison forced 17 turnovers and created a 22-4 margin in points off turnovers. They also led 34-14 in points in the paint and owned a 42-7 advantage in bench scoring.Â
Freshman
Serinity Metcalfe knocked down four of the team's seven 3-pointers as part of a 5 for 9 shooting effort on the night. The 5'7" guard also made 3 of 4 free throws to finish with a career-best 17 points, to go along with a team-leading four steals.
Dani Latz, a second year forward from Bloomer, Wisconsin, tallied 16 points and four rebounds. She was 7 of 10 overall and 2 for 3 at the stripe.
Guards
Iyanna Green and
Jamera Green came through with 13 and 11 points off the bench, respectively. Iyanna, from Kenosha, Wisconsin, was 5 for 12 with three free throws, while Jamera, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native, made 3 of 11 field goal tries with one hit from long range and a 4 for 4 performance at the free throw line.
Maia Ellis rounded out the double-digit scorers with ten points on 4 for 6 shooting with two free throws. The guard from Verona, Wisconsin, added seven rebounds. Freshman
Maddi DeSmet was tops on the team with a career-high 12 rebounds, to go along with eight points.
