CHICAGO HEIGHTS, ILL. - Saturday's women's basketball season-opener at Region 4 foe Prairie State College was a dominant team effort as Madison College earned a 74-31 victory, marking the first time since the 2016-17 season that they opened with a win. Five players scored in double digits, while the defense forced 29 turnovers and held the Pioneers to fewer than ten points in three of four quarters. The WolfPack snapped a brief two-game skid against PSC and lead the all-time series 3-2.
Madison College opened up an eight-point lead through the game's first ten minutes with a 17-9 advantage, which grew to a 41-20 differential at halftime after the Pack won the second quarter by 13 points. In the second half, Madison College turned up the defensive intensity and allowed just six points in the third quarter and five in the fourth. They led 64-26 heading into the fourth quarter.
The trio of freshman
Serinity Metcalfe and sophomores
Maia Ellis and
Keelyn Zwirschitz tied for team-high honors with 13 points. Metcalfe, a guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was 6 for 12 overall and sank one 3-pointer, while also coming up with a team-leading five steals. Ellis was 6 for 10 from the field with a free throw, to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Zwirschitz drilled three 3-pointers as part of a 5 for 17 effort overall, and secured seven rebounds.
Second year forward and returning all-region selection
Dani Latz went 5 for 13 shooting with a free throw to reach 11 points. She led the team with a game-high eight rebounds.Â

Iyanna Green scored ten points in her collegiate debut, sinking half of her four baskets from beyond the arc. Fellow first year
Chloey Bynum dished out a team-best six assists.
Madison College shot 35% (31-88) overall, 25% (9-35) from distance, and 23% (3-13) at the free throw line. They limited PSC to 8 of 36 (22%) shooting on the day and just one 3-pointer. The WolfPack cleaned up the glass with a 53-42 advantage in total rebounds, which also included a 30-12 edge in offensive rebounding. The defense also came up with 13 steals and four blocked shots.Â
