MADISON, WISC. - One year after a heartbreaking overtime defeat in the quarterfinals, the Madison College men's soccer team is advancing to the semifinals after a 2-0 defeat of the College of DuPage on Saturday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch - East. The top-seeded and #12-ranked WolfPack got a clean sheet from freshman goalkeeper
Caylen Coventry, as well as early and late goals from
Cole Rogers and
Paul Glashagen, respectively, to take down the #8-seeded Chaparrals in the
Region 4 Division II Tournament. The victory in the first-ever postseason meeting between the two programs gives the Pack a 5-3-1 lead in the all-time series, which includes a pair of victories in 2025.
The game opened fast with Madison College putting one in the back of the net less than two minutes after kickoff. Sophomore
Rodrigo Lasso fired a left-footed shot from the half circle, and whle Rogers deflected it, the COD goalkeeper was still able to get a hand on the ball as he dove to his left. The ball popped up and landed behind the 'keeper, so Rogers, a midfielder from Auckland, New Zealand, raced around to kick it in. The scoring strike is his tenth of the season and fourth in the last six matches. Lasso, a native of Panama City, Panama, recorded his team-leading seventh assist, including one in four straight matches.
The WolfPack appeared primed to run away with the match, but saw two goals scored wiped away by offsides calls. In between those calls, Coventry, a native of Barcelona, Spain, came up with a huge save as he denied the Chaps on a 24' penalty kick. It would prove to be his only save of the match.
The score remained 1-0 into the second half until freshman
Paul Glashagen provided some late insurance. The midfielder from Freital, Germany, lined up for a free kick near the right sideline about 18 yards out. His kick ricocheted off a Chaparalls defender, bouncing past a nearby
Josh Kiltz and DuPage goalkeeper on its way over the goal line. The goal is his second this season and first since September 3.
Madison College finished with an impressive 28-3 advantage in total shots, an 11-1 lead in shots on goal, and an 11-0 differential in corner kicks. Rogers led the way with six shots, followed by four each from Lasso and Kiltz. Lasso,
Dan Fox, and
Hudson Nielsen each had two shots on goal.
