WolfPack hits century mark in season-opening win at Prairie State

Madison College registers win in opener for third straight year thanks to five double-digit scorers

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team won its season-opening game for the third straight year on Saturday, rolling to a 105-85 victory in a Region 4 clash with Prairie State College. Thirteen WolfPack players scored in the game and five players reached double figures, led by sophomore guards Carson McCormick and George Whaley IV. The Pioneers still lead the all-time series by a narrow 3-2 margin; however, the Pack has won two consecutive head-to-head meetings.

Madison College had the offense going all game, which led to a 51-33 differential in favor of the visiting team at halftime. Overall, the WolfPack shot 53% (37-69) from the floor, 36% (11-30) from long range, and 69% (20-29) at the free throw stripe in a game they led from start to finish. 

McCormick, a native of Janesville, Wisconsin, picked up where he left off last season with all 18 of his points coming on six 3-pointers after he averaged a team-best three-plus makes from beyond the arc as a freshman. 

Whaley went for 15 points on 4 of 9 shooting, including one triple, and was 6 for 9 at the line. The Williamsport, Pennsylvania, native also contributed five rebounds and two assists.



Freshmen Carter Sullivan and Cam Williams each tallied a dozen points in their collegiate debuts. Sullivan, a former Stoughton HS athlete, was 4 for 6 with a three-pointer and 3 for 3 at the line. The 6'6" forward also secured a team-best nine rebounds. Williams, a guard from Verona, Wisconsin, was 6 of 10 from the floor with four rebounds.

Second year transfer Braylen Blue rounded out the double-digits scorers with ten points as he made half of his four buckets from three-point range. 

Sophomore guard Jevon Campbell was tops with four assists.

The WolfPack owned a 21-9 edge in points off turnovers, were 11 better on the boards and turned it into an 11-5 lead in second chance points, and saw their bench contribute 47 points. Prairie State College (0-1) was limited to just 38% (26-67) on the day with five 3-pointers, but did convert 28 of 38 (73%) at the charity stripe.

Madison College (1-0) will continue a season-opening road swing on Tuesday, November 4 with a trip to McHenry County College (0-1). The WolfPack is 6-3 against the Scots, who had been their opponent in the season's first game in seven of the previous eight years. Tip off is at 7:15 p.m. in Crystal Lake, Illinois, and can be streamed via Hudl.
