MADISON, WISC. - A pair of Madison College teammates produced double-doubles in Wednesday night's 75-55 win over Waubonsee Community College in a Region 4 women's basketball game inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Sophomores
Dani Latz and
Maia Ellis each came through with ten or more points and rebounds. The win is the WolfPack's second straight against the Chiefs, improving their lead in the all-time series to 12-6.
Madison College only trailed once in the game, as Waubonsee Community College (3-2) led 6-5 just over three minutes into the first quarter. However, the WolfPack put together a 17-4 run to close out the quarter with a 12-point lead. The run included three-pointers from
Jamera Green,
Chloey Bynum, and
Jaida Gaskins. The first half differential eventually peaked at 18 points in the second quarter on two separate occasions, but the Chiefs hung with the home team and trailed by 14 at the half.
Six quick points to open the third quarter got the Pack going, and they used an Ellis layup to go ahead 53-29. The Verona, Wisconsin, native, would score eight points in the fourth quarter, including a layup to push the differential to a game-high 26 points at 66-40 before the WolfPack earned the 20-point win.
Latz, a forward from Bloomer, Wisconsin, finished with 20 points and ten rebounds for her second double-double of the year, as well as her third game with 20 or more points. In addition to shooting 7 of 13 overall and a perfect 6 for 6 at the charity stripe, she also led the backcourt defensive effort with two blocks.
Ellis racked up season bests with 14 points and ten boards for her first double-double this year and third of her career. She finished a near perfect 7 for 8 from the floor.
Freshman
Maddi DeSmet also reached double-figures with ten rebounds, to go along with five points. Fellow first year
Serinity Metcalfe scored seven points and paced the team with five assists and three steals, while Bynum had nine points and four assists.
The WolfPack dominated the glass with a 49-31 rebounding advantage, including an 18-5 differential in offensive boards. It contributed to a 22-9 lead in second chance points, while they home team also held edges in points off turnovers (20-9) and points in the paint (46-32).
