MADISON, WISC. - Visiting South Suburban College rode a pair of early goals to claim a 2-0 Region 4 victory over Madison College on Wednesday night at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The loss snaps a three-match win streak for the WolfPack, while the Bulldogs, who are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, improved their lead in the all-time series to 3-1-1.
South Suburban College (7-1-1) jumped ahead 1-0 in the 8' with a scoring strike from the top of the penalty box that beat a diving attempt from goalkeeper
Kaelyn Welch. Less than two minutes later, the Bulldogs had a corner kick. Welch attempted to bat the ball out from in front of the goal; however, it sailed over her hands, ricocheted off a couple players before SSC kicked it into an open net to go ahead 2-0.
Madison College struggled to generate many offensive looks, amassing just four total shots and putting three shots on goal. Two of those looks at the net came in the final few minutes of the first half, with both
Reese Brekke and
Zoey Lovejoy being turned away by the South Suburban goalkeeper. A last ditch attempt to close the gap to one goal came in the 89' when
Ava Schmidt was denied.
The Bulldogs registered 20 shots and had seven on goal. Welch recorded five saves.
