RIVER GROVE, ILL. - Fresh off a pair of Region 4 wins at home on Friday, the Madison College women's volleyball team carried that momentum into two more region sweeps at the Triton College Triangular on Saturday as they took down Joliet Junior College and the host Trojans. The victories improved the #18 WolfPack's lead in the respective all-time series to 28-4 against the Wolves and 25-4 against the host Trojans.
Match #1: #18 Madison College 3, Joliet Junior College 0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-15)
Joliet Junior College (13-16) was fresh off winning a five-set thriller against Triton College and continued to play with confidence throughout the first set, which was back-and-forth throughout. The Wolves led 19-16 when a service error brought the ball back to Madison College, and sophomore
Cora Webster served an ace as part of a 4-0 run. After JJC evened the score at 21-21, freshman
Sam Schultz registered a kill and fellow first year
Makayla Dallas added an ace.
Caylee Coggins, a freshman middle blocker terminated an attack to reach set point at 24-22, and then two points later shut down a Joliet attack with a set-clinching block.
Freshman setter
Allie Andrews bookended an early 4-0 surge to open the second set with a pair of aces. The WolfPack eventually built a seven-point advantage with a Coggins ace that made it 13-6. After a JJC burst of four points cut the advantage to three, Madison closed out nine of the final 11 points, a stretch that began with back-to-back aces from sophomore
Tricia Klum and ended with a Dallas kill.
In the third set, JJC led 7-6 early when Coggins smashed home another kill to ignite a 7-0 run. The WolfPack maintained that lead en route to a ten-point victory.
Madison College racked up 33 kills with a .192 attack percentage and 12 aces. Defensively, their eight blocks are the most in a three-set match this season, while their 66 digs rank second for a three-set match.
Schultz and fellow freshman outside hitter
Ella Vosberg led all players with nine kills. Vosberg did so hitting at a .471 efficiency on 17 attack attempts. Schultz also accumulated nine digs.
Andrews finished with 14 assists, with Klum right behind with a dozen assists and a career-best-tying four aces.
Coggins registered six blocks, giving her that many in two of the last three matches played. Libero
Avery Agnew chased down a team-best 23 digs, followed by Webster with 12.
Match #2: #18 Madison College 3, Triton College 0 (25-18, 25-16, 26-24)
The day's final match opened with a close first set early until Madison College engineered a 5-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. The Pack never relinquished the lead and closed out a seven-point win with an
Ella Vosberg kill.
Triton College (10-11) held tough early in the second set, which was tied at 12-12 until back-to-back kills from
Caylee Coggins and Vosberg keyed a 13-4 closing run. Coggins also served up a pair of consecutive aces to go ahead 19-13 and force the Trojans into a timeout.
In the third set, Triton College was up 15-11 midway through before
Kate Howe terminated a kill to begin a 4-0 surge. The Trojans appeared ready to force a fourth set as they held match point at 24-21; however, the WolfPack stuck together and followed kills by
Sam Schultz and
Rowan Harder to eventually tie the game at 24-24. Dallas capped an incredible 5-0 closing stretch to win in extra points as she finshed a
Sammy Johnson assist with a kill.
Vosberg ended the match with 11 kills in 13 attempts for a career-best .846 attack percentage. Howe, a second year middle blocker, tied a career-high with nine kills and hit at a .571 efficiency, while freshman
Rowan Harder posted a career-best eight kills and hit at a .727 clip.
Tricia Klum and Johnson, both second year setters, established season-bests with 23 and 20 assists, respectively.Â
Coggins was tops with three aces and two blocks.
Avery Agnew, from Milton, Wisconsin, and
Cora Webster, from Waunakee, Wisconsin, each reached double-digits with 18 and ten digs, respectively.
Madison College matched a season high for kills in a three-set match with 46 kills, to go along with eight aces, five blocks, and 53 digs.Â

The match is Youth Night, with free attendance for any youth players wearing their team uniform or Madison College volleyball camp t-shirt. In addition, two Athletes Unlimited Pro Volleyball players, former UW Badgers setter Sydney Hilley and Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native Claire Chaussee, will be on site to sign autographs from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m. as they promote the league's arrival in Madison later this month. A VIP package of four (4) tickets and a private Meet & Greet with Hilley will also be given away for the AU's October 25 match at the Alliant Energy Center.
