MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team ventured outside of Region 4 competition on Saturday with a home match against Lincoln Land Community College, and nearly pulled off an upset with a 2-1 setback on
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Sophomore
Lexi Huebner punched in a goal late to keep the pressure on the #19-ranked Loggers, while also giving the WolfPack hope for a possible draw. The match was the first all-time between the two programs.
Lincoln Land Community College (12-2) put a goal on the scoreboard early with a successful scoring strike in the 14'. A centering pass from the right sideline was deflected by WolfPack goalkeeper
Kaelyn Welch and bounced into the goal to make it 1-0.
The Loggers added some breathing room early in the 26' as they took advantage of some poor passing by the home team. The Pack played a goal kick back to Welch, who quickly sent a pass to her left that, unfortunately, found a waiting LLCC player between to WolfPack teammates. The Loggers acted quickly with goal lofted up-and-over Welch for the 2-0 differential.
It remained a two-goal match over the next 60 minutes before Madison College was able to produce a goal. A pass from the left side of the penalty area made its way towards sophomore
Reese Brekke, who was just left of the penalty arc. The forward lightly headed the ball back towards Huebner, and the defender from Watertown, Wisconsin, unleashed a left-footed rocket to the top-left corner of the goal for her second career goal and her first this season.
The WolfPack was unable to generate another shot over the final minutes.
Lincoln Land amassed an 11-8 lead in total shots and a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. Freshman
Chloe Voung led the Pack with four total shots and two shots on goal. Huebner score on her lone shot attempt to mark her first goal since an October 2 match last season against Bryant & Stratton College.
