MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team continued their winning - and goal-scoring - ways on Saturday with a 4-1 defeat of Harper College in a Region 4 contest held at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Freshman
Suzy Hinds Cruz posted recorded her second consecutive multi-goal game as the WolfPack extended a non-losing streak to six straight matches, while also earning their fifth win in that stretch. The victory gives the Pack a 15-4-1 edge in the head-to-head series with the Hawks, who made the move in 2024 from NJCAA Division III to Division II.
Madison College was handed a gift in the game's 12' when a corner kick Hinds Cruz was deflected by Harper College (6-4) and directly into their own goal, giving the home team an early 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Hinds Cruz increased the lead to 2-0 with her first scoring strike of the day. The WolfPack got a boot on an errant goalie kick in the 16', and when the Hawks attempted to play it back to the middle of the field, the midfielder from Madison West HS intercepted it at the top of the penalty box half circle. After quickly dribbling her way around a pair of defenders, she sent a bouncing kick back against her body and inside the left post for her seventh goal of the season.
The two-goal differential held into the second half when Hinds Cruz struck again for her sixth goal in the last two outings. She again took advantage of a bad Hawks pass to create a scoring situation and converted for another unassisted goal and a 3-0 Madison College lead in the 53'.
Harper College was able to put a goal on the scoreboard in the 56' against freshman goalkeeper
Ava Foster, who took over at halftime for fellow first year
Kaelyn Welch.
The day's final goal came from freshman midfielder
Grace Brown, who was also able to find the back of the net on an unassisted kick in the 62' for her fifth goal of the season. The former Janesville Craig HS athlete extends her goal-scoring streak to four consecutive matches. Brown and Hinds Cruz have combined to score 13 of the team's 23 goals so far this season.
Overall, Madison College produced a 13-3 edge in shots on goal off a 20-6 differential in total shots. Brown and Hinds Cruz each had four shots on goal, while second year transfer Jerzey Ladwin registered three.
Welch, a Monroe, Wisconsin, product, and Foster, native of Holmen, Wisconsin, each had one save.
