MADISON, WISC. - A surging Madison College women's soccer team took full advantage of a depleted Bryant & Stratton College team playing shorthanded with a 9-0 win in Region 4 play Wednesday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Freshman
Suzy Hinds Cruz and sophomore
Jerzey Ladwig each posted multiple goals in the win that saw the WolfPack score their most goals in a match this season. The victory extends the team's current win streak to three and a non-losing streak to seven, while also giving the Pack a three-match win streak over BSC. The Bobcats own a 4-3 edge in the head-to-head series.
The scoring barrage started in the 8' and 9' with a pair of goals within 90 seconds of each other. Hinds Cruz set up fellow first year
Grace Brown to give Madison College a 1-0 lead after the Bryant & Stratton College (0-11) goalkeeper was unable to deny the pass, leaving Brown with a wide open net. The goal extends Brown's goal-scoring streak to five consecutive matches, during which she has amassed six scoring strikes.
The second WolfPack goal came off the left foot of sophomore
Emma McGlynn as she took a short pass from
Yessenia Angeles and went high over the keepers hands to make it 2-0. The midfielder from Poynette, Wisconsin, has two goals this season.
Hinds Cruz, a native of Madison, Wisconsin, took over the match later in the first half. The midfielder converted a Brown pass in the 29' to make it a three-goal lead, and then scored again in the 32' thanks to an assist from freshman
Ava Schmidt to make it her third straight game with two or more goals.
Before the half closed, first year midfielder
Lexi Huebner, a Watertown, Wisconsin, product, was able to score her first career goal with a bouncing kick that scooted past the goalkeeper. Hinds Cruz was awarded an assist on the play
The lead grew throughout the second half, with Hinds Cruz adding to her season scoring total. She was able to find the back of the net with goals in the 52' and 68' to give her 12 goals this fall, moving Hinds Cruz into the top 20 in all of NJCAA Division II. The former Madison West HS athlete matched her season best with four goals and has scored ten in the last three matches combined. Her ten points in the game make her the fourth player in program history to register ten or more points in a single match.
Second year transfer
Jerzey Ladwig handled the rest of the scoring for the WolfPack. The native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, and transfer from NCAA Division II UW-Parkside netted her first career goal in the 80' on a rebound during a frenetic sequence off a corner kick by freshman
Mollie Murphy, and then did it again in the 84' with McGlynn earning the assist.
The match finished with a 39-0 advantage in total shots for Madison College, who also created a 26-0 differential in shots on goal. The WolfPack were also awarded 11 corner kicks. Freshman
Ava Foster played the full 90 minutes in goal without facing a single shot.
Wednesday's match was also Teacher/Staff Appreciation Night.
