KANKAKEE, ILL. - Freshman
Suzy Hinds Cruz made history Wednesday, becoming the eighth person in Madison College women's soccer history to score four or more goals in a match as she led the WolfPack to an 8-0 shutout of Kankakee Community College in a road Region 4 contest. The Pack dominated the soccer ball and did not allow the Cavaliers to attempt a single shot en route to their fourth win in the last five matches, while extending their non-losing streak to five. The win also gives Madison College a 2-0-1 lead in the all-time series with KCC.
The scoring started in the 11' when Hinds Cruz took a pass from second year forward
Atziry Ocampo and was able to send a shot past the Kankakee Community College (1-6) goalkeeper to give the WolfPack a 1-0 advantage. Three minutes later, the midfielder from Madison West HS made it her first career multi-goal game when she worked the ball around several Cavaliers defenders to score a goal on a deflection off the goalkeeper.
The lead grew to 3-0 in the 31' when a fast break opportunity down the left side ended with sophomore
Emma McGlynn sending a perfect crossing pass to first year midfielder
Alexis Been, whose kick to the upper right corner found the net for her second goal of the season. The goal opened the flood gates as the WolfPack went on to score four goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half to make it 6-0. Hinds Cruz scored off a
Finley LaFlash assist in the 37' for the first hat trick by a WolfPack women's soccer player since the 2021 season. It became a four-goal effort in the 40', and was followed shortly after by first year midfielder
Sophia Garcia's second scoring strike of the season.
The scoring barrage picked right up with the start of the second half. Ocampo recorded her second assist when she set up fellow sophomore
Camille Gilbertson in the 47', and then Hinds Cruz picked up another point with an assist on the final goal of the day scored by freshman
Grace Brown.Â
The four goals and an assist by Hinds Cruz make her the sixth player in program history with nine or more total points in a game, and give her the team lead in goals scored this fall with six. Brown sits second with four goals, all of which have come in the last three matches for the Janesville, Wisconsin, native.
Madison College racked up 24 total shots in the match, with 11 shots being put on goal. First year goalkeepers
Ava Foster and
Kaelyn Welch split the match in net and neither faced a single shot or recorded a save in the combined shutout. So far this season, Madison College has outscored the opposition by a 19-5 margin.
