MADISON, WISC. - Putting their three-match win streak on the line Wednesday night at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, the Madison College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against defending Region 4 champion Rock Valley College. Freshman
Grace Brown tallied the only goal for the WolfPack, who pulled even in the all-time series with the
#14-ranked Golden Eagles at 9-9-1.
In the game's 11', sophomore
Atziry Ocampo sent a pass from the left sideline towards the top of the penalty box, where it deflected off midfielder
Jerzey Ladwig. The ricochet made it's way right to Brown, and the midfielder from Janesville, Wisconsin, lasered a shot from atop the penalty box arc to the inside the right post for a 1-0 lead.
The differential held into the second half until Rock Valley College (6-2-1) earned a free kick in the 52'. Sophomore Emma Ambrose's kick sailed perfectly over the Pack's blocking wall and leaping goalkeeper, and just under the cross bar for the equalizer.
Offensive looks were limited for both teams throughout the match as Rock Valley College finished with a 7-4 advantage in total shots and a narrow 3-2 edge in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Kaelyn Welch, a native of Monroe, Wisconsin, recorded two saves and allowed one goal.
Brown's goal marked her team-leading third of the season, and gives her three goals in the last two matches. Fellow freshman midfielder
Suzy Hinds Cruz registered the team's other shot on goal.
