Hinds Cruz nets game-winner in final ten minutes against Black Hawk

Victory in back-and-forth tussle is second straight win for WolfPack

MADISON, WISC. - Black Hawk College seemed to always have an answer after each Madison College goal in Wednesday's Region 4 women's soccer match at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East; until they didn't. Freshman Suzy Hinds Cruz buried the game-winning goal in the 81' to send the WolfPack to a 3-2 decision and hand the Braves their first loss in region play this season. The win evens the all-time series against BHC at one win a piece.

Madison College scored the only goal of the first half on a beautiful kick by Yessenia Angeles off a set play. After a foul on Black Hawk College gave the WolfPack a free kick just outside the penalty box, the sophomore from Madison, Wisconsin, bent a perfect shot inside the top left corner and off the fingers of the goalkeeper for her first career goal.

The Braves pulled even early in the second half with a goal in the 60' after coming up with a turnover outside the Madison College penalty box and immediately firing a low shot past goalkeeper Ava Foster.

The score remained tied until the 66' when first year forward Ava Schmidt sent a header to the back of the net for a 2-1 go-ahead goal. Suzy Hinds Cruz delivered a pass right in front of the net, and before it went beyond the end line, midfielder Alexis Been raced in to kick it back into the goalie box. That's where Schmidt, a native of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, earned her first collegiate goal.

Unfortunately, a WolfPack foul just over a minute later resulted in a Black Hawk College (6-2) penatly kick, which they were able to convert to tie the score 2-2.

As the match moved into its final ten minutes, Madison College was able to find one more bit of magic. Hinds Cruz took a pass from Jerzey Ladwig and weaved her way through several Braves defenders before delivering a shot on goal. The kick was deflected by a BHC boot and flew past the visiting goalkeeper for the game-winner. It's the second straight game with a goal for the former Madison West HS athlete.

Madison College generated a 12-4 lead in total shots and an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal for the match, as well as a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Hinds Cruz led the team with four shots on goal, while Schmidt added three and there were two each from Angeles and Atziry Ocampo.

Foster, a Holmen, Wisconsin, native, earned the win in goal with a pair of saves and two goals allowed.
