JOLIET, ILL. - Following a two week hiatus from game play, the Madison College women's basketball team returned to the court Tuesday with a Region 4 road game and Joliet Junior College, and lost by a 91-44 margin. Sophomore
Kayla Staveness accounted for more than 60% of the offensive output as the WolfPack dropped their 16th consecutive game. Madison College still leads the Wolves by a 22-20 margin in the all-time series between the two former N4C opponents.
The WolfPack showed the rust of not competing with a tough first quarter, where they were outscored 25-8. They managed to regroup in the second quarter to play a more competitive game and went into halftime down 42-19. Joliet Junior College (13-12) continued to separate in the second half, taking the third quarter 28-14 despite the Pack scoring their most poinst in a quarter for the night. The final ten minutes finished with a 21-11 differential.
Staveness hit a pair of three-pointers as part of an 8 for 26 shooting effort, but did significant damage at the free throw line where she was a perfect 10 for 10 en route to 28 points. The 5'3" guard from Rio, Wisconsin, has scored 20 or more points in seven games this season, with Tuesday's point total ranking as her second-highest. She also finished with five rebounds.
The rest of the team combined for 16 points, with fellow second year guard
Kaylee Anzalone added eight points. Freshman
Kialee Fox had six points and a team-high nine rebounds, and sophomore
