DEFENSE TO OFFENSE: WolfPack turnover Harper in lopsided win

Luster drops in another 30, Freeman produces second double-double in Region 4 victory

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball team took care of some Region 4 business on Saturday, finishing off a regular season sweep of Harper College with an 86-55 win inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Sophomore Deante Luster extended his streak of games with 30 or more points to three straight, while freshman Armon Freeman came off the bench to post his second double-double of the season. The WolfPack, who had defeated the Hawks by a 66-51 margin on the road in November, have won 12 in a row in the series and boast a 23-10 all-time lead.

An 8-0 run during the first five minutes gave Madison College an early 12-5 advantage and a lead they would never relinquish. The differential reached double-digits as the clock moved under 12 minutes to play in the half and Luster followed a Tyler Mitchell three-pointer with a successful jumper to make it 19-9. Harper College (5-20) was able to hang around the rest of the half, keeping the differential between ten and 16 points before the Pack went into halftime with a 43-31 advantage.

Madison College, which had forced the Hawks into 20 first half turnovers, continued to apply the defensive pressure in the second half, which led to more offensive opportunities. Justin Pleasant started the half off with his first made three pointer of the season, starting a quick eight point surge. After Harper College narrowed the gap back to 15 with 12:40 left to play, the WolfPack put the game away with a 12-0 surge that included back-to-back triples by Luster and consecutive steals and dunks from Peter Gustafson and Armon Freeman. The Pack cruised to the win from there.

Madison College finished the game plus-19 in turnovers, resulting in a substantial 35-4 edge in points off turnovers. They also used 18 offensive rebounds to build a 14-9 lead in second chance scoring, while also owning a 16-8 margin in fast break points and made five more three-pointers. The WolfPack drained nine shots from beyond the arc for just the fourth time this season, finishing 9 for 21 (43%).

Luster keyed the long-range assault with five 3-pointers as part of an 11 for 22 day and was perfect on three free throw attempts, resulting in 30 points and his fifth such performance of the season. He also had five steals to lead a season-best team effort of 20.

Freeman, a native of Duluth, Minnesota, scored a career-best 19 points and grabbed ten rebounds as part of his second double-double. He knocked down seven shots, including a pair from outside the arc, and was 3 for 6 at the stripe.

Mitchell and Gustafson also reached double-digits in scoring with 11 points each. The duo also combined for six assists and seven steals.
