Triton pulls away from Madison College

Latz registers seventh straight double-double

MADISON, WISC. - Tuesday's Region 4 women's basketball game inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium saw Triton College slowly pull away from Madison College for a 78-57 win. The WolfPack were led by freshman Dani Latz with her seventh consecutive double-double. The setback narrows the Pack's lead in the all-time series to 18-6 after the team's first meeting since the 2019-20 season.

The opening ten minutes were closely contested with the Trojans using a 10-4 run to own a 15-9 lead. A Jaida Gaskins three-pointer to close the gap to 16-14 early in the second; however, a 6-0 run later in the quarter put the Trojans ahead by nine. Lutz finished off the half with a jumper in the final minute to make it 29-21.

Triton College (11-3) started the third quarter scoring nine of the first 12 points en route to outscoring the home team by a 24-12 margin during the ten minute period. A high-scoring fourth quarter opened with a 20-point differential and saw the WolfPack put up 24 points. The points, however, were not enough to put a dent into the deficit as the Trojans held on for the 21-point win.

Latz, a 5'10" forward from Bloomer, Wisconsin, paced the Pack with 15 points,  13 rebounds, and five assists. She finished 5 for 13 from the field and was 5 for 6 at the free throw line.

Gaskins also scored in double-figures with 14 points, two rebounds, three assists, and three steals. The Coon Rapids, Minnesota, native, converted 5 of 10 field goal tries, including one 3-pointer, and was 3 for 8 at the charity stripe.

The Trojans owned a 33-16 edge in points off turnovers, a 23-8 lead in second chance points, and a 46-22 advantage in points in the paint. Madison College shot 36% (16-44) overall, 27% (3-11) from long range, and 61% (22-36) at the free throw line. The free throws made and attempted were both season highs for the WolfPack.
