Big second quarter sends WolfPack to win over Edgewood JV

Hauser goes for 20 as Madison College earns second win, scores most points in two seasons

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's basketball team led for all but 38 seconds of Wednesday night's 79-48 defeat of NCAA Division III Edgewood College JV inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium to earn their second win of the season. The WolfPack outscored the Eagles 28-9 in the second quarter and got a career-high output from freshman Camilla Hauser en route to their highest-scoring game since the 2022-23 season. The victory in the first meeting in 31 years gives the Pack a 14-2 all-time lead against the crosstown school.

Edgewood College took an early 2-0 lead on a pair of free throws; however, the WolfPack came right back on their first possession and freshman A'nise Keys completed an and-1 to give the home team a lead they would never relinquish. It also started a 9-0 run for the home team, whose advantage twindled to a single point twice in the last two minutes of the first quarter, which ended with another and-1 from fellow first year Aubrey Maass.



The game turned in Madison College's favor quickly in the second quarter thanks to an 11-0 surge that built a 27-14 lead after forward Dani Latz completed another basket-and-a-foul situation with 7:25 to play in the half. Hauser knocked down the first of her career-best four 3-pointers to cap another run of nine straight points to make it 36-16, and then hit another ten seconds before the half ended to send the WolfPack to the locker room leading 44-21. 

In the second half, the differential hit 30 points for the first time when Hauser drained her third triple to make it 61-29 late in the third quarter, and her final long range bomb started a 12-0 run to open the fourth quarter as they advantage sat at 73-33. The Eagles did close the game with a 15-4 push before the home team earned their largest win since a 33-point decision over Rockford University JV on November 17, 2022.

Hauser, a 5'5" native of Beloit, Wisconsin, sank four of the team's eight 3-pointers and was 8 for 19 overall to reach 20 points. She also racked up nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.



Three others scored in double-figures, with Maass added 16 points, five boards, four assists, and three steals. The Montello, Wisconsin, native was 3 for 13 outside the arc as part of a 5 for 17 effort overall, and tallied half of her points in the first quarter. Freshman guard Nariah Wilson came off the bench to score a career-high 14 points, to go along with career-highs of seven rebounds and six steals. The former Brown Deer HS athlete was 5 for 15 with one 3-pointer and a 3 for 6 mark at the free throw line.

Latz completed her third consecutive double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while also contributing two assists, two blocks, and three steals. Keys, a forward from Kenosha, Wisconsin, also had double-digit rebounds with a career-best ten, and scored seven points.

Madison College came up with 18 steals and forced 30 turnovers by the Eagles, which led to a 36-17 advantage in points off turnovers. The Pack also held a 40-30 edge in points in the paint. The home team shot 34% (29-84) from the field, 32% (8-25) from distance, and 65% (13-20) at the stripe. Their defense held Edgewood College to 27% (19-69) overall, 10% (3-30) from beyond the arc, and 63% (7-11) at the free throw line.

The four-game homestand continues for Madison College (2-3) on Saturday, November 23 with a Region 4 contest against Kishwaukee College (0-6).
