WolfPack drops weekend road game at Sandburg

Hauser nets career-high off the bench

GALESBURG, ILL. - Saturday's road trip to Carl Sandburg College resulted in a 77-61 loss in a Region 4 game for the Madison College women's basketball team. Freshman guard Camilla Hauser netted a career-best as she sparked the offensive effort coming off the bench, while Dani Latz secured a new career-high rebound total as part of second consecutive double-double. The Chargers now lead the all-time series by a 7-5 count.

An 8-0 run Carl Sandburg College (3-2) after freshman forward Dani Latz opened the scoring gave the home team some early breathing room. The differential reached ten before the WolfPack ended the opening quarter with with a Hannah Solie three-pointer sandwiched between a pair of free throws to make the deficit 16-11.

Four more points by Madison College to start the second quarter closed the gap to 16-15, and the game stayed within a couple possessions for the next five minutes. Nine consecutive points over a two minute stretch pushed the score to 32-21, and it remained an 11-point game at halftime after Sandburg beat the buzzer with a layup to make it 38-27.

The Chargers came firing out of the halftime break and extended their lead to 55-32 thanks to a 17-5 surge; however, Madison College did not fold and used a three ball from freshman Aubrey Maass to generate a 16-4 rally to make it back to an 11-point deficit going into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Carl Sandburg College used a late third quarter bucket to gain momentum for six quick points to begin the final ten minutes, and the differential remained in the teens the rest of the game.

Hauser, a native of Beloit, Wisconsin, posted 17 points for her second game in double-figures this season. She shot 7 of 12 overall, made two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, and was 1 for 3 at the free throw line, while also grabbing five rebounds and coming up with three steals.

Latz followed up her first career double-double with another one, going for 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. The 5'10" forward was 4 for 11 from the field and 4 for 6 at the stripe, grabbed six of her boards on the offensive end, and also dished out a team-high three assists.

Jaida Gaskins also came off the bench to contribute double-digit points with ten as she connected on three field goals and four free throws. The guard from Coon Rapids, Minnesota, also had four rebounds and three steals.

Madison College finished 34% (20-58) on the day, including a 4 for 20 (20%) from long range and a 17 for 26 (65%) effort at the line. The Chargers were 31 for 67 (46%) from the floor, and shot 19% (4-21) beyond the arc and 61% (11-18) at the charity stripe. The WolfPack finished with a 44-39 edge in rebounding, while Sandburg held advantages of 33-23 in points off turnovers, 13-8 in second chance points, and 48-30 in points in the paint. The teams combined for 62 turnovers, with the Pack's 36 miscues being their most in a game this season.
