MADISON, WISC. - Most fans had yet to find their seats or even entered the
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East gates on Saturday when Madison College took a 1-0 lead. The goal in the opening minute propelled the WolfPack to a 3-0 victory over the College of Lake County in a Region 4 contest that saw three different players score and goalkeeper
Victor Dalum record his fourth clean sheet. The Lancers lead in the all-time series narrowed to 4-3 as a result of the Pack's fifth win in a current seven-match non-losing streak.
College of Lake County (3-8) started the match with control of the ball and worked it all the way back to their goalkeeper, whose pass back up the middle was misplayed and rolled to the waiting feet of freshman
Cole Rogers. The midfielder from New Zealand loaded up from about 30 yards out and unleashed a scoring strike that dropped right under the crossbar roughly 18 seconds into the match. One of the fastest goals to start a match in team history, Rogers now boasts three goals on the season.
The score remained tight at just 1-0 for most of the match until the WolfPack posted two goals in the final 15 minutes to create a little breathing room. Freshman
John Soberon-Chehade scored the game's second goal; however, a majority of the credit belongs to sophomore
Carter Uhlmann, who did earn an assist. Uhlmann, a forward from Oregon, Wisconsin, sprinted downfield to catch up to a long pass from
Tomas Garcia before it went out of bounds. A Lancers player secured possession after the save, but quickly found a persistent Uhlmann right on him and applying a ton of pressure. After coming away with the steal, Uhlmann recorded his second assist of the season by sending a perfect pass into the goal box, where a Soberon-Chehade won a footrace with a CLC defender to the ball and scored his third goal in 2024 in the 75'.
Entering the final minutes of the match, first year forward Riann Amini took a pass from
Felipe Dewes in the penalty box and was able to eventually send a pass to fellow freshman João Forte right in front of the goal. Forte caught the goalkeeper diving towards the right post and managed to send the scoring strike towards the opposite post for an easy 88' goal. The native of São Paulo, Brazil, and former Eagle School athlete, leads the WolfPack with eight goals. The assist by Amini marks his second helper this season.
Madison College dominated the ball for much of the match, building a 24-5 advantage in total shots and a 12-4 lead in shots on goal. They also had a 7-1 differential in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper
Victor Dalum, a freshman from Odense, Denmark, recorded four saves en route to the team's sixth shutout in ten matches this season.
