Espinosa header leads to second straight home draw for WolfPack

Madison College extends non-losing streak to six matches

MADISON, WISC. - Two in-state and Region 4 rivals battled tooth and nail Wednesday night at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East and came away with a 1-1 draw against Bryant & Stratton College, marking their second consecutive tie on the home pitch. Freshman JJ Espinosa scored the lone goal off a corner kick to help the WolfPack extend their non-losing streak to six matches, a stretch that includes four wins and two draws. The result also evens the all-time series with the Bobcats to 2-0-2.

Neither team was able to generate much offensively during the first 45 minutes, which ended in a 0-0 tie and with a combined five total shots and zero shots on goal.

The intensity continued to ratchet up as the second half progressed. Sophomore Felipe Dewes was able to register the first shot on goal of the match in the 56', which was followed four minutes later by the first Bryant & Stratton College (4-4-3) shot and was turned away by goalkeeper Victor Dalum

Midway through the second half, Madison College earned a corner kick and sent first year defender Jacob Unger to the flag. Unger lifted a kick over nearly all of bodies waiting inside the penalty area, except for one. Fellow freshman JJ Espinosa leaped into the air for a header the curved over a couple more Bobcats heads and the goalkeepers arm to find the net just inside the upper left corner. The goal is the third of the season and first since a two-goal effort against UW-Whitewater at Rock County on September 4 for the Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, native.

The one-goal advantage held until the 81' when a failed attempt by Unger to clear a forwarding pass outside the penalty box resulted in a free ball that the Bobcats turned into a successful scoring strike past a leaping Dalum.

With time winding down, Madison College forward Carter Uhlmann penetrated inside the goalie box, where BSC deflected his shot past the endline. The WolfPack scrambled to execute a corner kick in the final 30 seconds. Uhlmann tapped the ball to Rodrigo Lasso, whose pass to the front of the net was headed in by a charging Cole Rogers. The apparent game-winning goal was waved off and the match ended in a draw.

The WolfPack produced a 13-5 advantage in total shots and a 6-3 lead in shots on goal, as well as 5-0 differential in corner kicks.

Uhlmann, a native of Oregon, Wisconsin, and John Soberon-Chehade were both credited with three shots, with Uhlmann and Dewes tying for team-high honors with two shots on goal.

The assist for Unger is his third of the season, and first since a two-assist day against the College of DuPage for the former Sussex Hamilton HS athlete.

Dalum finished with two saves and one goal allowed.

Wednesday's match was also Teacher/Staff Appreciation Night.
