Second half goals rally WolfPack past #6 Rochester in regular season finale

Madison College will take a four-match win streak into Region 4 Tournament

ROCHESTER, MINN. - The Madison College women's soccer team hit the road for a non-Region 4 match to wrap up the 2024 regular season on Sunday. Roughly 24 hours after a nail-biting 1-0 win over Milwaukee Tech, the WolfPack rallied with two secod half goals for a 2-1 victory over Rochester Community & Technical College, who entered the game ranked #6 in the NJCAA Division III Poll. Maddie Cadd and Jerzey Ladwig came through with goals within four minutes of each other to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit and give the Pack an 11-2-1 record.

A scoreless match for 43 minutes turned into a 1-0 lead for Rochester Community & Technical College (7-2-1) off a free kick. The Yellowjackets sent a ball over the WolfPack block and deep into the penalty box, where Lilly Farrand used her right foot to pop the ball over freshman goalkeeper Ava Foster and into the net.

Madison College had four shots on goal in the first half, and two more in the second half before they were finally able to break through. On a corner kick sent in by Ladwig, the ball was knocked around until Cadd, a defender from Milton, Wisconsin, charged in and sent a shot right at the goalkeeper. The shot hit the keeper's hands and bounced into the goal for the equalizer. The goal is the first collegiate goal for Cadd.

Four minutes later, the WolfPack earned another corner kick from the opposite side, and freshman Mollie Murphy sent the ball into play. Amidst the mass of bodies in the penalty box, Ladwig placed herself in the right position and her header snuck inside the left post for the game-winner. The goal is the third this season for the native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

The WolfPack racked up a 14-7 lead in total shots and a 9-6 edge in shots on goal. The visiting team also earned a lopsided 13-1 advantage in corner kicks that helped lead to both goals.

Foster, a native of Holmen, Wisconsin, played the full 90 minutes in goal and was credited with five saves and one goal allowed.

Madison College improves to 4-2 all-time against RCTC.
