RIVER GROVE, ILL. - Madison College and Triton College have played in some epic men's soccer matches over the years, and Wednesday night's Region 4 showdown fit that billing once again. Unfortunately, a goal in the 11' proved to be the game-winner as the Trojans handed the WolfPack their first shutout loss of the season. The Pack, who had only failed to score a goal in one other match this fall, now trail in the all-time series by a 7-24-1 margin.
Just over ten minutes into the game, Triton College (9-5-2) held possession of the ball and was working it around the pitch until midfielder Oliver Salgado attempted to penetrate the WolfPack defense. An attempted slide tackle by freshman
Alfredo Herrera was whistled for a yellow card and resulted in a Trojans penalty kick. Salgado beat first year goalkeeper
Victor Dalum with a line drive kick towards the left post while Dalum dove to the right post.
Prior to that play, Madison College had already put two shots on goal and were denied by goalkeeper Alexis Garcia Perez. He came through with another save in the first half, as well as three saves in the second half.
The WolfPack generated a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal thanks to a 9-5 lead in total shots. Both teams attempted five corner kicks.
Dalum was credited with one goal allowed and zero saves, compared to six saves and no goals for his counterpart.
Freshmen
JJ Espinosa and
Cole Rogers led the WolfPack with two shots on goal each, while
Jacob Unger and
Hudson Nielsen each produced one.
