ROCKFORD, ILL. - An early first-half header was all the Madison College men's soccer team needed in earning a second straight win and the season's first road victory Tuesday afternoon. The WolfPack used a
Gabe Voung header to win 1-0 over Region 4 rival Rock Valley College, who earlier in the day was receiving votes in the latest
NJCAA Division II Poll. The victory gives the Pack a four-match win streak over the Golden Eagles and a 14-6-1 advantage in the all-time series.
Madison College fired the first shot of the match early in the 14' as freshman
Damo Lovell's kick was denied by the RVC goalkeeper. Just over two minutes later, first year defender
Alonso Martinez centered pass in front of the home goal and sophomore
Gabe Voung elevated to head it in. The goal was the first this season for the returning All-American that led all of NJCAA Division III in scoring in 2022, while also giving Martinez, a native of Beloit, Wisconsin, his first collegiate assist.
Defense won the day from that point on as sophomore keeper
Phil McCloskey notched his second straight shutout win. The DeForest, Wisconsin, native made two saves as RVC racked up 13 total shots and put three on goal compared to five total shots for the Pack with four on goal. McCloskey has played 188 consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.
Voung, a former Sun Prairie HS athlete, connected on his only shot on goal, and was joined by
Jamie Le Comte, Lovell, and
Roger Escalera in tallying a shot on goal.
