CORNERED: WolfPack rolls past Harper with big second half

Sophomore Petroski nets first career two-goal game in team's third straight win

PALATINE, ILL. - The Madison College women's soccer team won their third consecutive match on Saturday, using a big second half to down Harper College by a 4-0 final in a Region 4 match. Sophomore Samantha Petroski scored half of the team's goal as the WolfPack have now outscored their last three opponents by a 15-0 margin. The win also gives the Pack a 14-4-1 lead in the all-time series, as well as wins in seven straight meetings with the Hawks.

Sophomore Kierstin McHugh opened the scoring with the only goal of the game's first half. After intercepting a Harper College (0-3-1) corner kick, the WolfPack's Grace Huber played the ball ahead to McHugh and the midfielder worked the ball up the far sideline. The Madison, Wisconsin, native, burst past a pair of defenders in the 22' before unleashing a scoring strike right past the goalkeeper for her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Madison College then put in three more goals in the second half, with each one coming off a corner kick. McHugh put the first corner kick in play in the 54', and the ball found its way to the feet of Petroski and she managed to slide it past the keeper for a two-goal lead. Eight minutes later, a corner by sophomore Savi Pursley ricocheted off the body of Petroski an into the back of the net. The Watertown, Wisconsin, native and UW-Oshkosh transfer now boasts three goals on the season, with all three coming over the last two matches.

The game's final goal occurred in the 85' as another corner from McHugh was redirected into goal by sophomore Tazhia Aune, who has now scored her first two career goals in back-to-back matches.

The WolfPack concluded the match with a 9-2 lead in shots on goal as part of a 13-4 effort in total shots. They also took full advantage of a 7-2 differential in corner kicks. Petroski was tops with five shots and four shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Morgan Thompson earned her second clean sheet of the season and recorded two saves.
