Offensive explosion lifts WolfPack over rival Stormers

Two-goal match for Gilbertson leads Pack of eight goal scorers

OAK CREEK, WISC. - A comfortable three-goal lead at halftime turned into a rout Tuesday as Madison College defeated in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College by a 9-0 final in a Region 4 women's soccer match. Eight different WolfPack players scored, led by the first career multi-goal game for freshman Camille Gilbertson, while first year goalkeeper Kialee Fox earned a shutout in her first career start. The victory gives the Pack a 6-0 edge in the all-time series, which had not been played since five meetings over the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The scoring began in the 16' with the freshmen combination of Atziry Ocampo and Alyssa Moore. Moore sent a deep pass into the penalty box, and when the Stormers (0-7) goalkeeper missed on her initial attempt to play the ball, it left Ocampo with a wide open net and she converted for her second goal of the season.

Freshman Delaney Bracken notched her second goal of the season in the 31' with an unassisted scoring strike off a deflected pass, and then Gilbertson knocked home a centering pass along the end line from Ocampo to give Madison College a 3-0 lead in the 43' of the first half.

The scoring siege began just over six minutes into the second half when sophomore Savi Pursley netted her second goal of the year on an unassisted kick in the 52'. The lead would stretch to 7-0 over the next seven minutes after Pursley set up second year midfielder Samantha Petroski for her first collegiate goal in the 54', Mahala Frey kicked in her fourth career goal on a Petroski assist in the 54', and then Frey issued the helper in the 59' for sophomore Tazhia Aune to find the back of the net for the first time in a WolfPack uniform.

Gilbertson, a native of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, made it a two-goal performance in the 68', using a pass from freshman Yessenia Angeles to make it 8-0. The final goal of the day was awarded in the 72' off the foot of sophomore Kierstin McHugh on an assist from first year forward Emma Purcell. McHugh's scoring strike brought her into a tie for the team-lead in scoring with Gilbertson at three goals each.

Not to be lost in the shuffle of all the scoring was the effort by Fox in her collegiate debut, collecting a pair of saves en route to her first win and a clean sheet. The WolfPack finished with a sizable 25-2 edge in total shots, a 17-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-0 lead in corner kicks.
