Madison College takes draw at Black Hawk despite big second half rally

Three goals marks the most in a match this season for WolfPack

MOLINE, ILL. - The Madison College men's soccer team finally broke through their scoring ceiling of one goal a game on Saturday, however, their season-high three-goal output was only good enough to earn a draw in a Region 4 showdown at Black Hawk College. The WolfPack rallied from a two-goal deficit in the first half and held a 3-2 lead in the second half before the Braves pulled even in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Black Hawk College (3-1-1) raced out to a 2-0 advantage with goals in the 5' and 19' against goalkeeper Phil McCloskey and the WolfPack defense. Madison College narrowed the deficit to a single goal in the 27' when McCloskey sent a deep pass beyond the midfield stripe and fellow sophomore Gabe Voung chased it down. The forward then used a left-footed kick to beat a defender and the Braves keeper for his third goal of the season.

Till a 2-1 score into the second half, the WolfPack exploded for two goals in less than two minutes. Second year defender Adrian Henkovic elevated for a header off Felipe Dewes' corner kick and bounced it past the GK for the equalizer in the 53'. Dewes, a freshman midfielder from Brazil, put the Pack out in front in the 55' with his first career goal, and it came off an assist from Jamie Le Comte.

Unfortunately, BHC was ready to answer and did in the 57' with their equalizer to make it 3-3 on a shot that followed a save by McCloskey. Over the game's 30-plus minutes, Madison College put three shots on goal, but were denied each time. The Braves finished the final stretch without any shots.

Madison College owned a 13-7 edge in total shots and a 10-6 margin in shots on goal. Voung, Le Comte, Dewes, and Carter Uhlmann all posted two shots on goal. The goals by Voung and Henkovic mark their 28th and fourth career goals, respectively.

McCloskey finished with three saves and three goals allowed.
