MADISON, WISC. - The scoring struggles to start the season continued Tuesday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East as the Madison College men's soccer team was held without a goal in a 3-0 Region 4 setback to Kankakee Community College. The shutout ends a streak of four consecutive matches with one goal to open the 2023 season, while also snapping a three-match win streak over the Cavaliers. The WolfPack still leads the all-time series by a 4-2 count.
Visiting Kankakee Community College (3-3) got on the scoreboard in a hurry, netting a goal in the 8' following a corner kick. The Cavaliers slowly worked the ball around the penalty box before getting off a low shot that snuck past goalkeeper
Phil McCloskey.
Still a 1-0 match in the second half, the Cavaliers seized control with a pair of 63' goals. After denying the WolfPack on a corner kick, KCC created a run out and was able to score on a 1-on-2 situation with a high lazer just inside the near post. A poor pass by McCloskey following the re-start led to a turnover and a long-range shot that caromed off the crossbar. Another Cavaliers player was able to beat the Madison keeper to the rebound and put it in net.
The match was called with less than seven minutes to play due to lightning.
Kankakee Community College converted on all three of their shots on goal, and limited the WolfPack offense to a single shot on goal by sophomore
Gabe Voung. Madison College owned a 6-5 edge in total shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.Â
