Uhlmann's second goal sends WolfPack to season's first win

McCloskey posts shutout as first half goal stands against Malcolm X

MADISON, WISC. - Freshman Carter scored his second career goal and it was all the Madison College men's soccer team needed to earn a 1-0 win over Region 4 foe Malcolm X College on Wednesday at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The win marks the first collegiate coaching win for new WolfPack head coach Logan Fye, and also gives the Pack a 4-0 record all-time against the Hawks.

The only goal of the match came as the sun set and the lights took effect on the field with clock approaching the final five minutes of the first half. The WolfPack earned a goal kick, which sophomore Phil McCloskey played out to the left side. A pair of quick passes put the ball at the feet of All-American forward Gabe Voung, who the sent a cross-field pass to Uhlmann just beyond the 18 on the right side. The first year forward controlled the pass with the right foot, made a move across his body with his left to get by a defender, and grounded a kick past a falling goalkeeper.

Uhlmann, a native of Oregon, Wisconsin, remains the only player to have scored this season for Madison College, boasting a goal in each of the last two outings. Voung has assisted on both scoring kicks.

McCloskey posted his first shutout of the season and the fourth of his career. The DeForest, Wisconsin, native finished with four saves on the night.

Both teams created plenty of offense, however, finding the back of the net was the biggest challenge. The WolfPack owned a 17-10 lead in total shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Freshman Felipe Dewes put three of his seven attempts on goal to lead the assault.
