Madison College nearly takes down Kishwaukee on the road

Anzalone ties WolfPack single-game assists mark

MALTA, ILL. - The Madison College women's basketball team put together their best offensive effort of the season Saturday with a season-high for points, however, it was not enough to overcome Kishwaukee College in an 85-77 road loss in Region 4 play. Four players scored in double-figures, including career-best point totals from freshmen Addyson McHugh and Emily Rottier-Douangmala, while second year guard Kaylee Anzalone tied the program record for assists in a game. The Kougars have won three straight over the WolfPack, who still lead the all-time series by a 16-11 tally.

Madison College trailed by just three after the game's first ten minutes, taking a 15-12 deficit into the second quarter. Kishwaukee College (2-8) increased their lead during the second quarter, outcoring the WolfPack by a 25-20 margin to take a 40-32 advantage into the locker room. The two teams were dead even throughout the second half, with each scoring 22 points in the third quarter and 23 points in the fourth quarter, leaving the Pack unable to overcome the small deficit in a tightly-contested matchup.

McHugh, a forward from Spring Grove, Minnesota, converted 8 of 19 shot, including her first career three-pointer, and was 2 for 2 at the free throw line en route to 19 points. Her first game with double-digit points also came with eight rebounds and career-high three blocked shots.

Anzalone netted a season-high 19 points to match McHugh for team-high honors, while also recording her first collegiate double-double with 15 assists to tie for the all-time single-game mark in program history with Taylor Nelson from the 2015-16 season. The Elkhorn, Wisconsin, native, made two of her six field goals from outside the arc, and knocked down 5 of 6 free throws, while also grabbing six boards, collecting three steals, and blocking one shot.

Rottier-Douangmala came off the bench to register 16 points and ten rebounds for her second double-double of the year. The native of Eagle River, Wisconsin, was 7 for 9 overall and 2 for 4 at the stripe to reach her highest output since posting 14 in her collegiate debut in the season opener. Defensively, Rottier-Douangmala came through with three steals and two blocks.

Kayla Staveness completed the double-digit scoring with 15 points after draining 3 of her 6 attempts from beyond the arc as part of a 6 for 11 afternoon overall.

Madison College finished the game shooting 41% (30-73) for their highest field goal percentage of the year, while the team's six 3-pointers were the their second-most in a game this season.
