Rottier-Douangmala celebrates birthday with career-high point total

Freshman leads WolfPack in home loss to Waubonsee

MADISON, WISC. - Freshman Emily Rottier-Douangmala used some birthday magic to post a career-high in points for the second straight game, as she led the Madison College women's basketball team in an 87-42 home loss to Region 4 foe Waubonsee Community College on Monday night inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The setback marks the team's seventh straight overall and fourth in a row against the Chiefs, while the WolfPack still lead the all-time series by a 10-6 margin.

Madison College hung close early as they trailed by just six after a Kayla Staveness layup midway through the first quarter. Following a Waubonsee Community College (4-8) three-pointer, Rottier-Douangmala converted a Kaylee Anzalone pass with a layup to make it 17-10 before the Chiefs closed the first ten minutes with a 6-0 run. The surge continued into the second quarter with five straight points before Rottier-Douangmala canned her only three of the game. Waubonsee answered with ten consecutive points, and later stretched the lead beyond 30 with a 10-2 burst to go into halftime with a 51-19 advantage.

The WolfPack came out fighting in the third quarter, scoring four of the first six points, and later used back-to-back buckets from Rottier-Douangmala and Anzalone to close the gap back to 30. However, Waubonsee owned a 69-31 lead going into the fourth quarter before eventually earning the victory despite nine points in the fourth quarter by Rottier-Douangmala.

The guard from Eagle River, Wisconsin, finished 7 of 17 from the field and made 2 of 4 free throws for 17 points, giving her a total of 33 points over her last two games. She also added a team-high seven rebounds and the team's only blocked shot.

Staveness also scored in double-figures as the native of Rio, Wisconsin, dropped in 12 points with a team-high two 3-pointers. The 5'0" guard also produced six boards and three steals. Anzalone led the team with five assists, to go along with eight points and five rebounds.
