Top-ranked Rochester takes down WolfPack

Golackson ties career-high point total

MADISON, WISC. - In their traditional pre-Thanksgiving gathering, the Madison College women's basketball suffered a 97-49 home loss to Rochester Community & Technical College on Tuesday inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The defending national champion Yellowjackets, who are currently ranked #1 in the NJCAA Division III Poll, have won five of the last six meetings, however, the WolfPack still own a 22-12 edge in the all-time series.

Rochester Community & Technical College (3-1) scored the game's first nine points, and after sophomore Tazhia Aune got the WolfPack on the scoreboard with a layup, the Yellowjackets added eight more consecutive points. Madison College responded with a quick 5-0 push to narrow the deficit to ten. The quarter ended with the visitors leading 27-10, and RCTC increased their advantage in the second quarter with a 16-0 push. Freshman guard Emily Rottier Douangmala ended the half with a successful jumper to make it 54-18 at the break.



For the second straight outing, the WolfPack tallied more than 63% of their points in the second half as they scored ten of their 16 total field goals in the final 20 minutes. Madison College put together a seven-point run in the third quarter before the Yellowjackets reached their peak lead of 53 in the fourth quarter.

First year forward Cayla Golackson used a 6 for 11 shooting effort and a 5 for 6 performance at the free throw line to register a career-high-tying 17 points. The Darlington, Wisconsin, native, added five rebounds, a team-leading five assists, two blocks, and a steal.

Sophomore Kayla Staveness finished with 13 points, four rebounds, and five assists that tied her for the team lead. Fellow guard Kaylee Anzalone made all three of the team's three-pointers to reach nine points.

Madison College (1-6) is off for eight days with the Thanksgiving holiday break and returns to action Wednesday, November 29 with the finale of a four-game homestand against the College of Lake County (7-0). The WolfPack lead the all-time series 7-4, however, the Lancers topped the WolfPack by an 82-62 score on November 14. Tip off is at 5:30 p.m. inside H.
