Oakton holds off WolfPack's second half charge

Busy week awaits Madison College with three games in five days

MADISON, WISC. - There were moments during Saturday's third quarter when it felt like Madison College was on the verge of putting together a long run, however, Oakton College always seemed to have an answer en route handing the home team an 85-29 Region 4 loss inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Freshman Cayla Golackson was the lone player in double-figures for the WolfPack, who committed their most turnovers in a game since January 2022. The Owls now own a slim 3-2 lead in the all-time series.

Oakton College (4-0) ran out to an early 13-0 lead as the WolfPack went more than eight minutes without a field goal before sophomore Kaylee Anzalone's free throw line jumper went through. Madison College trailed 21-8 after the first ten minutes despite a 6 for 10 effort at the free throw line. An 18-0 surge to open the second quarter put the Owls in full control, though the Pack did score five of the final seven points before halftime. The WolfPack put their best foot forward in the third quarter with 11 points on 5 of 13 shooting, however, the deficit continued to grow throughout the second half.

Freshman Cayla Golackson paced the WolfPack with 12 points, eight rebounds, and a block. The 6'0" forward was 4 for 7 from the field and 4 of 6 at the charity stripe.

Guards Kaylee Anzalone and Emily Rottier-Doungmala tied for team-high honors with four assists each.

The WolfPack finished 9 for 35 (25%) overall and hit 1 of 9 (11%) from outside the arc, while also converting 10 of 20 (50%) free throws. In addition to sinking a dozen 3-pointers, the Owls also scored 42 points off the Pack's 39 turnovers.
