MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team went nearly a month without losing a match until Tuesday's 3-1 loss against Region 4 opponent South Suburban College ended a five-match win streak. Freshman
Atziry Ocampo tallied the WolfPack's lone goal, but it was not enough to overcome two-goal deficit in the first half at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The setback puts the all-time record against the Bulldogs at 1-1-1 following their first meeting in eight years.
South Suburban College (5-3-2) netted the game's first goal in the 18', and followed it up in the 38' with another goal by the same player to make it a 2-0 differential. Minutes before the first half was to end, Madison College trimmed the deficit to a single goal thanks to some nifty footwork by Ocampo. After a Bulldogs defender knocked the ball away from sophomore
Savi Pursley with a sliding tackle, the ball made it's way to Ocampo. The forward from Monroe, Wisconsin, initially went to her left towards the end line before hitting brakes with a juke move back to her right to escape a defender and set up a shot. Her looping kick just snuck in between the crossbar and the goalkeepers hands for her third scoring strike of the season.
The WolfPack were eager to mount a full comeback in the second half, however, found gaining control of the ball to be difficult against the Bulldogs. Pursley and fellow sophomore captain
Kierstin McHugh were each denied on shots in the 64' and 70'. South Suburban College added some breathing room in the 73' with a goal to make it 3-1.
The visiting Bulldogs doubled up the Pack offensively with advantages of 16-8 and 10-5 in total shots and shots on goal, respectively. They also attempted a dozen corner kicks compared to just two for Madison College. Five different players registered a shot on goal, with sophomore transfer
Samantha Petroski being the only player with two total shots.
Goalkeeper
Morgan Thompson made seven saves and allowed three goals. It's just the second game this season with that many goals allowed for the sophomore.
