MADISON, WISC. - It was as if a pair of brick walls were put up in front of the goals Tuesday night at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, as neither Madison College nor South Suburban College were able to find the net in a 0-0 draw of their Region 4 men's soccer match. The tie marks the fourth this season for the WolfPack and the fifth for the Bulldogs, as well as the first in the all-time series between the two teams, which now stands at 4-3-1 in favor of SSC.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Phil McCloskey recorded his third clean sheet of the season and racked up a season-high five saves to keep visiting South Suburban College (0-6-5) off the scoreboard. The DeForest, Wisconsin, native now boasts seven career full-time shutouts.
Both teams finished the match with five shots on goal, and the host WolfPack owned a narrow 12-11 edge in total shots. Madison College was unable to take advantage of a 10-3 lead in corner kicks.
Sophomore
Gabe Voung was tops with two shots on goal and four total shots. The forward was also at the start of a potential game-winning goal opportunity as the WolfPack transitioned from a McCloskey save and move the ball up field in a hurry during the final minute. As Voung veered from the sideline to the middle of the field, he drew three defenders and drop a pass off to second year transfer
Jamie Le Comte. The midfielder then tried to find forward
Joao Mendonca, who was wide open in front of the net, however, the pass was a little behind and all Mendonca could do was deflect the ball back to the goalkeeper.
