LIBERTYVILLE, ILL. -
Gabe Voung continues to rewrite the Madison College men's soccer record books after two goals in Saturday's 6-1 defeat over the Region 4 opponent College of Lake County moved him from second to first on the school's all-time goals scored list with 34. The WolfPack scored a season-high six goals with second year forward
Joao Mendonca joining Voung with multiple goals in the team's second consecutive win.
Voung, a sophomore All-American, got right to work with a 19' goal that tied him for the lead in career goals. A perfect lead pass from sophomore midfielder
Jamie Le Comte found Voung streaking to the goal. Upon receiving the pass, he made a beautiful hesitation move to deke out a defender and the goalkeeper for an open look at the net.
A few minutes later, the WolfPack went ahead 2-0 with a successful
Angel Gongora header off a corner kick from
Damo Lovell. It was the first career goal for the second year midfielder from Madison, Wisconsin.
History was made in the 39', and again it came off a corner kick. When Lovell's kick sailed past the goal, second year defender
Adrian Henkovic put a boot on it to redirect it back to center, where Voung was able to head it in for a 3-0 advantage and a spot atop the all-time list of goal scorers at Madison College. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native broke the single-season goals record with 25 as a freshman, and now owns the career mark with 34 to surpass the 33 goals scored by Toby Andrews between 2016 and 2017.
The WolfPack took a 4-0 lead into halftime after a centering pass from Lovell late in the 45' was deflected by first year forward
Carter Uhlmann and allowed Mendonca to put it past the goalkeeper. The differential grew to 5-0 quickly after the second half got underway with a 47' goal from second year transfer
Lukas Krikava as the ball was rapidly knocked around inside the penalty box. Voung used a light touch to push it over to Krikava for a low line drive past the 'keeper for his second goal of the season.
College of Lake County (3-10-3) got on the scoreboard a couple minutes later against Pack goalkeeper
Phil McCloskey. The scoring ended in the 67' when Mendonca netted his second off a Uhlmann assist for his first career multi-goal game and his fourth scoring strike this season.
Madison College finished with an 18-3 lead in total shots and an 8-2 differential in shots on goal. They also took advantage of seven corner kicks. Mendonca was tops with three total shots, while three players registered two shots on goal. Voung now leads the team with nine goals this fall. He also sits at 77 career points, one point behind Andrews all-time mark of 78.
McCloskey was awarded one save and one goal allowed.
The victory snapped a three-match losing streak against the Lancers, who still lead the all-time series by a 4-2 margin.
