WolfPack put four goals on Joliet, earn season's fourth win

Four different players find the net, Madison College holds off late rally

MADISON, WISC. - When a Madison College men's soccer player got a good look at the net Tuesday night at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, good things happened. The WolfPack converted all four of their shots on goal en route to a 4-3 win over Joliet Junior College in a Region 4 match that saw the visiting Wolves nearly erase a two-goal deficit. The Pack now leads the all-time series by a 17-12-4 tally with wins in nine consecutive meetings and a non-losing streak of 13 straight.

Joliet Junior College (7-5-1) was first on the board with a 21' goal. Madison College pulled even later in the half thanks to sophomore Joao Mendonca being in the right spot at the right time. When a JJC defender deflected the ball away from Gabe Voung as he tried to make a move inside the penalty area, the ball trickled over towards Mendonca, who charged at it and delivered a blast past to the top right corner in the 40' to even the score at 1-1. It was his second goal of the season.

Still tied into the second half, Madison College began to build momentum, and it started with a breakaway for freshman Carter Uhlmann in the 52'. Uhlmann chased down a lead feed from Gabe Voung as he slipped behind the defense, and was able to beat the keeper to the left side for his third scoring strike this fall.

Following a 20-minute delay due to an injured Wolves player, Madison College quickly jumped back into gear. Great ball movement led to a centering pass from Uhlmann that was intended for Jamie Le Comte, however, when the sophomore transfer and a JJC defender both missed on it, the ball ended up at the feat of new Pack forward Isaiah Breininger. The first year forward from Richland Center, Wisconsin, tallied his first career goal to make it 3-1 in the 58'.

The Wolves never quit, and pulled within 3-2 with a 77' goal. Off the ensuing kickoff, Madison College worked the ball into the attacking zone and as the clock moved into the 78', sophomore transfer Lucas Krikava found a deflected Voung pass right in front of the goal and scored his first career goal through the goalkeepers legs to make it 4-2. It proved to be the game winner as Joliet Junior College kept the pressure on with an 81' goal to get within one. Neither team was able to put a shot on goal after that.

The visitors racked up a 16-10 advantage in total shots and an 11-4 lead in shots on goal, as well as a 5-1 differential in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Phil McCloskey came up with eight saves in the win. Uhlmann was tops in total shots with three, followed by two from Breininger.
