MADISON, WISC. - The goals rained into the net Wednesday afternoon at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, and fortunately for the Madison College men's soccer team, all of the action occurred in their offensive zone. The WolfPack, who moved up to #7 in the
NJCAA Division III Poll earlier in the week, completely dominated rival Milwaukee Area Technical College by a 9-0 final to begin North Central Community College Conference and Region 4 play. Freshman
Gabe Voung netted a career-best four goals to help the Pack reach a 5-0 start for the first time since the 2007 team that finished 15-1-1.
Madison College controlled the ball for nearly the entirety of the match and stormed out to a 7-0 lead by halftime. Voung, a native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, started the scoring with a 5' goal off an assist from
Dominick Ramirez.
Adriano Ponte followed with a scoring strike off a
Jacob Howard helper in the 13' that jumpstarted a run of four goals in five minutes. Ramirez set up Howard in the 16', and Voung added his second in the 17' before Howard matched him with a second goal in the 18' on a Ponte assist.
Before the half was over, Madison College added a
Caeben Schomber unassisted goal in the 27' and
Vimas Worjloh netted his first career goal on a pass from
Sam Johnson to cap the half in the 35'. The second half featured two more goals from Voung in the first 12 minutes, one coming off an assist by
Evan Thome.
The WolfPack racked up 20 total shots and put 14 on goal, while keeping Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-1, 0-1) without a single shot attempt.
Voung's four-goal performance ties him for the second most goals in a game in program history, while also tying him for fourth-most total points in a single game. The forward now boasts nine goals and leads all of NJCAA Division III in that category.
Howard's career-best two goals give the freshman from Union Grove, Wisconsin, three goals on the season. Ramirez, a first year midfielder, led the Pack with two assists, giving him a team-high four on the year.
Goalkeepers
Phil McCloskey and Worjloh split the time in net in half, and neither faced a single shot on goal during the shutout win. The WolfPack have four shutouts in the first five games.
Madison College has won 19 consecutive matches against the Stormers, and are 49-15-2 in the all-time series.
