Harper hands #7 WolfPack first loss of season

Five-match win streak to start season ends with first shutout setback

MADISON, WISC. - Harper College continued it's run of success against Madison College on Wednesday night, giving the seventh-ranked WolfPack their first loss of the season with a 3-0 decision at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The Hawks have won 11 of the last 12 matches, including a shootout win in last year's Region 4 Tournament, and settled for a draw in the 2021 regular season finale to now own a 22-8-3 record in the all-time series. The result also gives Harper College a one-game lead in the North Central Community College Conference standings through two matches.

The Pack had outscored its opponents by a 28 to 3 margin entering the match, and was held without a goal for the first time this fall. Harper College's (3-0-1, 2-0) goal in the 33' not only gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the first half, but it also ended an impressive run of 232 scoreless minutes for WolfPack goalkeepers and defenders. The scoring strike was the only shot attempt of the half for the visitors, while Madison College fired off three shots, but none were on goal.

Still 1-0 in the second half, both teams created more offensive opportunities, and the Hawks were able to put two shots on goal in a five-plus-minute span that resulted in the second one getting past freshman Phil McCloskey in the 56'. An 80' goal put the match out of reach for Madison College, which placed two of their four second half shot attempts on goal.

First year forwards Gabe Voung and Adair Tlato each totaled two shots, with the former being the only WolfPack player with a shot on goal.

McCloskey, a DeForest, Wisconsin, native, made two saves over 90 minutes.
