MADISON, WISC. - Three days after suffering their first loss of the 2022 season, the Madison College men's soccer team rebounded in a big way with a 7-1 victory over Region 4 opponent McHenry County College on Saturday at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East.
Dominick Ramirez posted two goals, and was one of six different players to find the back of the net for the WolfPack, who remained the seventh-ranked team in the
NJCAA Division III Poll. The win is just the second all-time against the Scots, who boast an 8-2-2 mark in the head-to-head meetings.
The scoring came early for both teams, as the freshman tandem of
Jacob Howard and
Gabe Voung connected for a goal in the game's 3' to put the WolfPack in front 1-0. The goal by Howard was his fourth of the season. McHenry County College (1-5-1) quickly answered with a 5' goal against Madison College goalkeeper
Phil McCloskey. The Scots goal came after McCloskey made a save 20 seconds earlier on a shot towards the net.
The two teams continued to put pressure on the opposing net, with the Pack regaining the lead in the 26' with what proved to be the game-winner off the foot of Voung. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native has tallied ten goals on the year, which ranks him second in the nation. Ramirez was credited with an assist on the goal, and then 19-minutes later found himself on the scoring end of a
Sam Johnson pass to close the half with a 3-1 Madison College lead.
Still a two-goal differential more than 15 minutes into the second half, Madison College opened the flood gates with a barrage of goals. It started with sophomore
Caeben Schomber converting an
Adair Tlato pass in the 64', and followed in the 68' with Tlato using a Schomber helper to make it 5-1. Ramirez, a former Madison Memorial HS athlete, made it his second two-goal effort of the year with a successful header on an
Evan Thom corner kick in the 71'. The final tally was counted in the 75' by freshman
Joao Mendonca, thanks to another assist from Tlato.
Ramirez now boasts five goals on the year and finished perfect in the match with two goals scored on two shots. He finished with five points. Tlato, another Madison, Wisconsin, native, earned four points with a goal and a team-high two assists.
Voung was tops with three shots on goal, while Schomber, Ramirez, Howard, and
Adriano Ponte all had two shots on goal. The WolfPack finished with a 22-9 edge in total shots and a 15-5 lead in shots on goal.
McCloskey made four saves in less than 80 minutes in net before
Vimas Worjloh entered for the final ten.
